How to protect your paper mail (US only)

Recommended steps to take to protect yourself online vary by country or region. The guidance in this article is for the United States only.

If someone has stolen your United States mailing address info, they can use it to intercept your mail.

To protect yourself, you can:

Sign up for Informed Delivery

The US Postal Service (USPS) can email you preview images of your paper mail before they arrive. You can sign up for Informed Delivery in USPS at usps.com.

If you suspect that someone has stolen your mail, you can report an incident when you call the USPS hotline at 877-876-2455 or when you visit their website usps.com.

Opt in for paperless delivery

You can have companies send you important documents through email instead of regular mail. Paperless delivery includes your bank statements and bills.

To find out if a company offers paperless delivery, search for the option after you sign into your account.

Protect your credit

Someone can use your address, name, Social Security Number, and date of birth to take out credit in your name. To prevent this issue, learn how to protect your credit.
