What’s new in Android Enterprise: Android 14

4 October 2023

To meet the diverse needs of a distributed workforce, the release of Android 14 brings a lot of new features to Android Enterprise. The new advanced security and compliance features provide organizations peace of mind while the new Android Work Profile management features improve employee experience and provide more flexibility and control for a variety of use cases.

Advanced security & compliance

Enhanced PIN security
To strengthen device security, employees are encouraged to set a 6-digit PIN as the default length for the device unlock pin.
Managed ultra-wideband (UWB)
Android 13 added support for Ultra-wideband (UWB). To stay compliant with NIAP requirements, IT admins can now enable or disable UWB on Android 14. Additionally, audit events for enable and disable actions are recorded in the SecurityLog.
Security policies for credential managers
Android 14 brings support for multiple password managers to the Android Credential Manager. To enhance the security of work credentials and passwords, IT admins can enforce a default credential manager in work profile and fully managed devices. This ensures that employees can only store work credentials and passwords in an approved credential manager.
Protect devices with 2G connectivity controls
IT admins can protect managed devices from 2G traffic interception, person-in-the-middle attacks, and other 2ignoredbased threats by disabling 2G connectivity for managed devices at the modem level for null-ciphered connections.

Elevated employee experiences

Save screenshots to Work Profile
Take screenshots without the risk of leakage outside the Work Profile. Screenshots from work apps and websites are automatically saved to the Work Profile.
Improved cross-profile experiences
Through an improved cross-profile experience, Android 14 offers a better employee experience and improves employee efficiency.
  • Cross-profile app link experience: Quickly open links in relevant apps on respective profiles or in the browser. This reduces the number of clicks required and it is useful when employees want to open work-related app links in the personal profile or remain in the Work Profile.
  • Cross-profile messaging experience: Enable employees to view and message work contacts from personal messaging apps.
Discoverable Work Profile settings
Search for Work Profile settings in the main device settings. This allows employees to find Work Profile apps and settings in the device more easily.
In-app profile switching for Google apps
Quickly switch between the personal and Work Profile of a Google app. Easily switch between the personal and Work Profile in Google apps by swiping sideways on the account's profile picture.
Partial screen share
Protect work data security and employee privacy by allowing employees to share only the relevant apps when sharing their screen. Employees can choose to present a single app rather than the entire screen to reduce the chance of data leakage.

Note: This feature will be available in 2024.

Improvements to accessibility
Android 14 makes it easier for employees to work from their device by having new and improved inclusive accessibility features such as:
  • Improved magnification
  • Nonlinear font size scaling
  • Font size quick setting tile
  • Hearing aids improvements
  • Flash notifications
