Enhanced employee & device protection

Android 15 for business introduces enhanced employee and device protection features designed for the modern workplace to help keep data and devices safe.

Android theft protection

With Android theft protection, employees can shield sensitive business information from theft. These features include:

  • Theft Detection Lock: When machine learning detects an unlocked device getting snatched, the device automatically locks itself to protect sensitive information.
  • Offline Device Lock: If a device disconnects from the network for a set period of time, the device screen automatically locks.
  • Remote Lock: In the case of theft or a missing device, users can remotely lock their device screen by going to android.com/lock and entering their own phone number.

Private space for personal profile

Within the personal profile, a private space offers a locked folder that requires a password or biometric input to unlock.

Employees can protect their personal data while traveling or working in public by storing sensitive apps like banking, financial, and healthcare applications in a private space on their work device. This helps prevent accidental or intentional access to personal information when sharing the device with colleagues.

NIAP Audit Logging Requirements
To comply with the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) standards, IT admins can quickly review administrative device changes. This facilitates the identification of sources of attack, reconstructing events, and identifying vulnerabilities.

Stronger management of company-owned devices

Android 15 for business streamlines device setup, enhances security, and optimizes performance, providing stronger management of company-owned devices.

eSIM management for managed devices

Android's eSIM management facilitates seamless provisioning and removal of eSIMs on managed devices, enhancing operational efficiency by streamlining employee onboarding and offboarding. Employees retain control over which eSIM is active on their personal devices and have the option to remove the enterprise eSIM if desired.

Security restrictions for apps outside the Work Profile on company-owned devices

Android 15 for business introduces the ability to apply a limited set of security restrictions to specific apps outside the Work Profile. Existing personal app allowlist or blocklist policies can be extended to the new private space feature*. In the future, additional privacy preserving security configurations for core apps will be introduced and made backward compatible with Android 15.

*Note: This feature is only available through the Android Management API. Contact your EMM to determine if they support this feature.
Enforce the default app selection for calls, messaging, and web browsing when setting up company-owned devices

IT admins can enforce the default apps for the dialer, messaging, and browser and prevent end users from modifying them. To ensure that the defaults for the dialer and browser are set, this feature should be configured before setup. To enforce defaults after setup, the control must be used with an app allowlist.

Controls for Circle to Search on Android Work Profile

With Circle to Search, employees can improve productivity within work apps by easily searching for more information with a simple gesture. IT admins can manage this feature on fully managed devices and within the Work Profile.

Screen brightness & timeout controls for company-owned, personally enabled (COPE) devices
IT admins can configure screen brightness, brightness mode, and timeout duration for company-owned, personally enabled devices. Additionally, they can prevent users from making changes to these settings, ensuring consistency across all devices. This can help optimize energy consumption and extend battery life.
