Use Smart Downloads with YouTube Premium

With Smart Downloads, recommended videos are automatically added to your downloads to watch offline. Watch videos on the go and discover new content without the hassle of searching. Downloads will stop if you disconnect from Wi-Fi, or if your device's storage is low.

How to download videos with YouTube Premium

Turn on Smart Downloads

From your signed-in YouTube Premium account:
  1. Open the YouTube app.
  2. Tap your profile picture .
  3. Tap Downloads .
  4. From the Menu , select Settings.
  5. Toggle Smart Downloads to on .
Note: Your device must be connected to the Internet to begin downloading videos.

Turn off Smart Downloads

From your signed-in YouTube Premium account:
  1. Open the YouTube app.
  2. Tap your profile picture .
  3. Tap Downloads .
  4. From the Menu , select Settings.
  5. Toggle Smart Downloads to off .

Find and watch Smart Downloads

From your signed-in YouTube Premium account:
  1. Open the YouTube app.
  2. Tap your profile picture .
  3. Tap Downloads and then Smart Downloads.
You'll see a list of recommended videos selected and downloaded for you based on your watch history.

Remove a video from your Smart Downloads

Remove recommended downloads in two ways:
  1. Under the video player, tap Downloaded  next to the video that you'd like to remove.
  2. Click Delete.
Or
  1. Tap your profile picture  and then Downloads .
  2. Tap the menu  next to the video that you'd like to remove.
  3. Select Delete from downloads.
New videos will be downloaded every seven days and the previously downloaded videos will be replaced.

Change Smart Downloads quality/resolution

From your signed-in YouTube Premium account:
  1. Open the YouTube app.
  2. Tap your profile picture .
  3. Tap Downloads .
  4. From the menu , select Settings.
  5. Tap Download quality.
  6. Select your preferred download quality setting from the options listed.

Adjust your storage settings

From your signed-in YouTube Premium account:

  1. Open the YouTube app and go to your Settings.
  2. Tap Background and downloads and then Smart Downloads.
  3. Go to Storage use and then Custom.
  4. Use the slider to select the amount of storage that you'd like your device to use for Smart Downloads.
