Note: This article applies only to music partners who have a Shorts agreement with YouTube.
Use the Shorts creation tools to make your Shorts available to users for remixing. Shorts that are unclaimed or contain music added outside of the Shorts creation tools may require your label or distributor's intervention. Learn more below.
Shorts remix eligibility
To remix a Short with an artist song in it, the source Short must:
- Contain music content
- Be claimed by a Shorts-eligible sound recording that has the “In-product (Shorts)” origin, created by using the music from the Shorts library
- Not be uploaded to a music network channel
Shorts uploaded to a music network channel must be claimed with a Web asset type as a partner upload type. If the channel used to upload the Short isn’t linked to a music network channel, visual remix options, like Green Screen, Collab, or Cut, should be available.
Visual remix features are not available for Shorts that have third-party claims. If the third-party claim represents music that is available in Shorts, like a sound recording claim for a song, the audio can still be remixed.
Find out if your channel is linked to a music network
To check your channel’s affiliation with a music network,
- Sign in to YouTube Studio using your channel credentials.
- Go to your Dashboard.
- Under “Network relationship,” look for a label or distributor name. If the “Network relationship” section doesn’t appear, your channel is not linked to a music network.
If you’re a user with access to a label or distributor’s Studio Content Manager account, you can find linked channels in the Channels tab.
