Claim issues that require action from you can include potential claims, disputed claims, and appealed claims. Once you've reviewed your claim issues, there are a few different actions you can take, depending on the claim.
Find claim issues to review
- Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
- From the left menu, select Issues .
- Click the filter bar and select Issue type.
- Check the box next to Potential claim, Disputed claim, and/or Appealed claim. To refine your search, you can select additional filters:
- Potential claim: Routed to review, Short match, Video uploaded by another Content Manager user, Low confidence, Violate YouTube monetization policy, Retroactive block. Descriptions of these filters can be found here.
- Disputed claim or Appealed claim: Copyrighted material is misidentified, Fair use, Authorized, Original content, Public Domain. Descriptions of these filters can be found here.
- You can apply other filters to further refine the list, such as Channel ID, Other party, Video length, or Match type.
- Click an individual claim. The Claim details page will open, which shows more info about the claim issue.
Take action on claim issues
On the Claim details page, when reviewing a potential, disputed, or appealed claim, you can choose from a couple options to release the claim:
- Release claim: If the claim should remain inactive, click RELEASE CLAIM.
- Release and exclude a claim: To release the claim and exclude the portion of your reference file that matched the video, click the arrow next to RELEASE CLAIM and select Release and exclude claim.
Release multiple claims at once
To release more than one potential, disputed, or appealed claim on the same claimed video:
- On the Claim details page, review all the claims.
- Choose an option:
- Release all claims: To release all claims on the video, click RELEASE CLAIMS.
- Select claims to release: To release some of the claims on the video, click the arrow next to RELEASE CLAIMS and click Select claims to release. Check the boxes of the claims you want to release.
To release more than one potential, disputed, or appealed claim across different claimed videos:
- Go to the Issues page.
- Click the filter bar and select Issue type.
- Check the box next to Potential claim, Disputed claim, and/or Appealed claim.
- Click APPLY.
- Check the boxes next to the claimed videos whose claims you want to release.
- In the top banner, click RELEASE CLAIM.
On the Claim details page, when reviewing a potential claim, you can choose from a couple options to confirm the claim:
- Confirm claim: To confirm the potential claim is valid and apply your match policy, click CONFIRM CLAIM.
- Confirm claim and submit a takedown request: To confirm the potential claim is valid and submit a takedown request to ask YouTube to remove the video, click the arrow next to CONFIRM CLAIM and select Takedown claimed video.
Confirm multiple potential claims at once
To confirm all the potential claims on the same claimed video:
- On the Claim details page, review all the potential claims.
- Click CONFIRM CLAIMS.
On the Claim details page, when reviewing a disputed claim, you can choose from a couple options to reinstate the claim:
- Reinstate claim: To verify the disputed claim is valid and make it active again, click REINSTATE CLAIM.
- Reinstate claim and submit a takedown request: To verify the disputed claim is valid and submit a takedown request to ask YouTube to remove the video, click the arrow next to REINSTATE CLAIM and select Takedown claimed video.
Reinstate multiple disputed claims at once
To reinstate more than one disputed claim on the same claimed video:
- On the Claim details page, review all the disputed claims.
- Choose an option:
- Reinstate all claims: To reinstate all disputed claims on the video, click REINSTATE CLAIMS.
- Select claims to reinstate: To reinstate some of the disputed claims on the video, click the arrow next to REINSTATE CLAIMS and click Select claims to reinstate. Check the boxes of the claims you want to reinstate.
Change a claim's policy
Sometimes you may want to apply a policy to a claimed video that's different from your default match policy. To add a custom policy to a claimed video:
- Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
- From the left menu, select Issues .
- Click the filter bar and select Issue type.
- Check the box next to Potential claim, Disputed claim, and/or Appealed claim.
- To refine your search, select additional filters:
- Potential claim: Routed to review, Short match, Video uploaded by a YouTube partner, Low confidence, Violate YouTube monetization policy.
- Disputed claim or Appealed claim: Copyrighted material is misidentified, Fair use, Authorized, Original content, Public Domain.
- You can apply other filters to further refine the list, such as Channel ID, Other party, Video length, or Match type.
- To refine your search, select additional filters:
- Click APPLY.
- Click an individual claim to open the Claim details page.
- On the Claim details page, click the Policy tab.
- Click SET CLAIM SPECIFIC POLICY.
- Choose an option:
- Use an existing policy: Select an existing policy from the list and click APPLY.
- Create a policy: To make a new custom policy, click SET CUSTOM POLICY. Once you’re done creating the policy, click SAVE. Learn more about creating policies.
