Exempt channels from Content ID claims

These features are only available to partners who use YouTube Studio Content Manager.
When you turn on Content ID matching, YouTube automatically generates claims against other users' uploaded content that match (portions of) your reference files.

In some situations, you may want to prevent Content ID from claiming videos that certain YouTube channels upload. For example, a movie studio might not want to claim videos from a channel that reviews and promotes its films. You can exempt channels from Content ID claims by adding channels to your allowlist.

Notes
  • Because Content ID doesn’t claim videos from channels linked to your Content Manager, you can’t add these channels to your allowlist.
  • Individual assets can’t be added to your allowlist, only channels can be added.

Add channels to your allowlist

You can add one or more channels to your allowlist to exempt them from Content ID claims. To add channels to your allowlist:

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. From the left menu, select Allowlist .
  3. In the top-right corner, click ADD CHANNELS.
  4. Enter a channel ID or a URL. The channel ID is the 24 character alphanumeric string that starts with 'UC' in the channel URL.
    • To add more than one channel at once, paste a comma-separated list of channel IDs into the text box.
  5. Click ADD.

After you add channels to your allowlist, Content ID won’t claim any videos uploaded to those channels going forward. But, any existing claims made before adding them to your allowlist won’t be automatically released. Learn how to release claims.

If more than one partner owns an asset, each partner must add a channel to their allowlist to prevent claims against this asset.

Remove channels from your allowlist

Removing channels from your allowlist means Content ID will no longer exempt the channels from claims. If these channels upload videos that match your reference files and the channels are no longer on your allowlist, then Content ID will generate claims. To remove channels from your allowlist:

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. From the left menu, select Allowlist .
  3. Click the filter bar and then Channel ID or Channel name.
  4. Paste a comma-separated list of channel IDs or channel names and then APPLY.
  5. Click the checkboxes next to the channels you want to remove from your allowlist.
    • To select all channels, click the checkbox above the search results list and then Select all.
  6. In the top banner, click REMOVE.
Note: Removing a channel from your allowlist doesn’t delete the channel from YouTube.

Export info about channels on your allowlist

You can get more info about the channels on your allowlist, such as channel ID, channel name, and the date the channel became exempt. To export this info:

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager.
  2. From the left menu, select Allowlist .
  3. Click the checkboxes next to the channels you want to export info about.
  4. In the top banner, click Export  and select Comma-separated values (.csv) or Google Sheets (new tab). The file will begin processing.
  5. When the file is done processing:
    • For a .csv file: Click DOWNLOAD from the top banner.
    • For a Google Sheets file: Click OPEN SHEETS IN NEW WINDOW from the top banner.
