Channel released by an MCN

Joining the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) is a requirement for all affiliate channels in multi-channel networks (MCNs). Channels that are in an MCN and below the YPP threshold will be released from the MCN.

When an MCN releases a channel from their network, it can cause monetization status to change. Follow the instructions in this article if you’re released from an MCN.

Before you leave your MCN, you can:

  • Download your revenue reports. You won't be able to access them once your channel is released from your MCN.
  • Make sure you have an active AdSense for YouTube account. You get paid through your AdSense for YouTube account, and we ask for your account information when you apply for the YouTube Partner Program. Making sure you have one ready will make your YPP application process smoother.
    • To find your account, you can try to sign in to AdSense for YouTube using your YouTube channel's information. You can also search your email accounts to see if you previously signed up for one.
    • If you don't have an active AdSense for YouTube account, you can sign up for one.

Check your monetization status

When you’re released it’s important to check if your channel is enabled for monetization. Affiliate channels may be automatically linked to their previous content owner and automatically approved for the YouTube Partner Program. Owned & Operated channels, however, will have to re-apply for YPP after leaving their MCN.

If your channel is not enabled for monetization, take the following steps:

  1. Apply to join the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) even if your channel was previously in YPP. Your channel will be reviewed to join once it meets the program eligibility threshold
  2. Link your channel to an active AdSense for YouTube account and make sure you set up a form of payment. You get paid through your AdSense for YouTube account.
  3. Make sure ads are on for the videos you want to monetize.
  4. Confirm your upload defaults so every upload is automatically monetized according to your settings.
Note: When you meet the YouTube Partner Program eligibility threshold, do not create a new AdSense or AdSense for YouTube account if you have an existing account. Duplicate accounts are against AdSense Terms and Conditions or AdSense for YouTube Terms of Service, as applicable.
