What is audio mode?
Audio mode lets you listen to music or podcasts without loading a video. Enjoy music or podcasts even if you're experiencing low connectivity or video playback issues. Audio mode for music is only available with a YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium subscription.
Switch between audio and video mode
- Open the YouTube Music app .
- Select a song or podcast.
- For music tracks, you'll see the option to select Song or Video mode at the top of the screen. For podcasts, options will show as Audio or Video.
- Tap Video to turn on video mode for both podcasts and music tracks.
- Tap Song for music tracks and Audio for podcasts to only hear the album version of the song or the podcast episode.
Note: If the creator hasn't made a video for their music or podcast, the video option won't be available.
Turn on audio-only mode:
- Open the YouTube Music app .
- In the top-right corner, select your profile photo.
- Tap Settings Playback and restrictions.
- Toggle Don't play music videos and Don't play podcast videos on.
You can also listen to full albums regardless of whether some songs in the album have YouTube videos or not. If a song doesn't have an accompanying music video, the audio version will play instead.
Audio-only mode does not prevent music videos from being played in YouTube Music. If the only file available for playback on YouTube Music is a music video, the music video will play in audio-only mode.
