As an administrator, you can avoid compatibility issues and service interruptions with Drive for desktop. To do so, keep your users on a version of Drive for desktop that Google released within the last 12 months.
The easiest way is to allow auto-updates, which are on by default. If you turn off auto-update, we recommend that you review what version is on users’ devices and make updates available as soon as you can.
Google may disable outdated versions of Drive for desktop at any time.
Review what version is on users' devices
You can use your Admin console to see what version of Drive for desktop is installed on a device. For instructions, go to View laptop and desktop device details.
To learn which version is the latest, or how old a version on a user’s device is, review the Google Drive for desktop release notes.
