The G Suite Enterprise for Education Full Domain Licensing (GSEfE FDL) three-year promotional discounts have expired for many customers. In 2024, all customers will need to transition their G Suite Enterprise for Education subscription to a Google Workspace for Education edition.
What do I need to do?
If you have a G Suite Enterprise for Education subscription, you need to evaluate your options and transition to Google Workspace for Education edition. This might require coordination across your institution, so work with your reseller to review your transition options. Follow the steps below for more information.
If you have Google Workspace for Education Fundamentals, Google Workspace for Education Standard, Teaching and Learning Upgrade, or Google Workspace for Education Plus, no action is required.
Step 1: Identify your current subscription & licensing model
There were 3 subscription licensing models for G Suite Enterprise for Education.
- G Suite Enterprise for Education Full-Domain Licensing (GSEfE FDL) with promotional discount and 3-year price lock—You placed a GSEfE FDL order with your reseller before October 31, 2020 and received a promotional discount and a 3-year price lock. You purchased licenses for all full-time staff and received 10 student licenses at no cost for each paid staff license.
- G Suite Enterprise for Education Full-Domain Licensing (GSEfE FDL) at retail price—You purchased licenses for all full-time staff and received 10 student licenses at no cost for each paid staff license.
- G Suite Enterprise for Education Partial-Domain licensing (GSEfE PDL) at retail price—You purchased a minimum of 50 staff licenses or licenses for 15% of your total staff, whichever was greater. You did not qualify for discounts or student licenses at no cost.

You can view your current subscription in the Admin console. Or, talk to your reseller.

In 2021, G Suite was rebranded to Google Workspace; if you had G Suite Enterprise for Education, you see Google Workspace for Education Plus - Legacy in the Admin console.

Transition to an offering that meets your product needs, budget, and timeline. Education Standard and Education Plus are licensed for all full-time enrolled students. Additional licenses can be purchased for part-time students, alumni, or others. Prices below are shown in U.S. dollars. Speak to your reseller about regional pricing.

We designed transitions to Education Plus or Education Standard to preserve license assignment. Transitions to Teaching and Learning Upgrade might require you, as an administrator, to manage and assign licenses in the Admin console. For more details, visit Manage & assign licenses.
If you are preserving your functionality by transitioning to Education Plus, you will not experience loss of data. If you downgrade your edition and lose a feature, such as the Investigation Tool, you lose data associated with that feature (for example, saved investigations). You can get the feature and data back if you upgrade within 21 days. Otherwise, you need to wait until after 84 days to upgrade to an edition with the feature and data will not be restored.
No. GSEfE at retail price is only available from your current reseller.
You can purchase the Teaching and Learning Upgrade in the Admin console on a monthly, flexible billing model. Education Plus and Education Standard are sold through resellers.
Yes. Your reseller will ask you to submit a student enrollment verification letter when you transition.
Education Plus provides the most comprehensive functionality and is most comparable to the functionality in GSEfE PDL. You may consider the Teaching and Learning Upgrade if your needs are solely for premium teaching and learning features. No. All GSEfE customers will be required to move to a Google Workspace for Education paid edition at renewal in 2024 to maintain premium functionality. Resellers will be unable to renew GSEfE editions in 2024.
If you don't take action, your domain will be transitioned to Education Fundamentals, your GSEfE subscription will be suspended, and you will lose access to premium functionality and additional storage. You will have the option to upgrade to Education Plus or other Education editions in the future.
