Unassign a voice number
If a user leaves your company or no longer needs a Voice number, you can remove the number associated with their account.
Note: Unassigned numbers remain in your control, and you can reassign them to a new user. You can also use these numbers for auto-attendant or Ring Groups.

Sign in to your Google Admin console.
Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

In the Admin console, go to Menu AppsGoogle WorkspaceGoogle Voice.
- Click Users.
- Next to the user whose number you want to remove, click Edit number.
- Click Unassign .
- To confirm, click Unassign.
Reassign a voice number
If you want to reassign a number from one user to another, you can remove the number associated with the former account and assign it to the latter one.

Sign in to your Google Admin console.
Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

In the Admin console, go to Menu AppsGoogle WorkspaceGoogle Voice.
- Click Users.
- Click the user whose number you want to reassign, click Edit number.
- Click Unassign .
- To confirm, click Unassign.
- Point to the user you want to reassign the number to and click Edit number.
The number assignment window appears. - In the Country/region field, click the Down arrow and select a country/region from the list. If you select a location that isn't one of your Voice locations, you get an error message. Learn how to Add Voice locations.
- In the Service address field, select the user's location to use for emergency services.
Note: You can use one of your existing Voice locations with an additional address line (optional), or enter a new address in the form provided. - In the Google Voice number field, Voice shows an available number. It should read, Previously assigned to someone else.
- To reassign the number, click Assign.
- To find a different number to reassign:
- Click Change.
- Next to a number in the list, click Select.
- Click Assign.
