With Google Workspace, you can map your Google Site to a custom address such as example.com. You can make it even easier for people to reach your site at example.com. Here's how to set up your Google Site with your naked domain address, which is your web address without "www".
Before you begin
For your naked domain address to work, you must already host your Google Site at example.com, where example.com is the name of your actual domain. See how to customize a Google Site address.
Note: Only primary domains can be redirected to a naked URL. If a subdomain is designated as your primary domain on your Manage domains page, that subdomain cannot be redirected.
Redirect your naked domain
-
Sign in to your Google Admin console.
Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).
-
In the Admin console, go to Menu AccountDomains.
- Click Manage domains.
- Next to Primary domain, click Set up redirect or Change redirect.
- Enter the prefix or subdomain of the web address (typically, this is "www")Save.
Note: Address mapping is supported only by HTTP and not HTTPS. - Configure A records for your domain to map the prefix you entered above to the IP addresses of Google servers hosting your site.
You configure A records using the administrative tools at your domain host, not the Google Admin console. If you don't know how to configure A records, see A record values.
- When you're done, click I've completed these steps.
You might have to wait up to 48 hours for your A record changes to go into effect. After that, entering your naked domain address redirect to the web address you set up in your Admin console.
Troubleshooting
If you can't access any of your sites with a naked domain address, your domain might be set up with HTTP Strict Transport Security. This security measure requires HTTPS connections to your domain and subdomains. The Admin console supports only HTTP connections for custom URLS, so you can't redirect site addresses for your domain.
You can check the HTTP Strict Transport Security status for your domain at https://hstspreload.org.
