Configure A records

You can set up your "naked" domain address for Google Workspace by updating your domain host A records. You manage A records using at your domain host, not the Google Admin console.

Don't change your domain A records if you're using non-Google services with your domain because this will make those services unavailable. Before changing your A records, you should already be hosting your domain's website as a Google Site built in your Google Workspace account. For details, see Set up your "naked" domain address.

Configure A records for your domain host

  1. Sign in to your domain's account at your domain host. Who is my domain host?

    If you purchased your domain when you signed up for your Google Workspace or Google Cloud account:  Go to your Google Admin console to access your domain host DNS settings. See Access DNS records from a partner host.
  2. Locate the page for updating your domain's DNS records.

    The page might be called something like DNS Management, Name Server Management, or Advanced Settings.

  3. Locate the A records for your domain. You may already have one or more records resembling:

    Name/Host/Alias Time to Live (TTL) Record Type Value / Answer / Destination
    Blank or @ 86400 A 68.178.232.100
  4. Modify your A records so they have the A record values listed below. If necessary, create new A records to include a record for each IP address listed on this page. Enter these values at your domain host, not in your Google Admin console. Note also that some hosts use different labels for the name and value fields.

    Name/Host/Alias Time to Live (TTL*) Record Type Value/Answer/Destination
    Blank or @ 3600 A 216.239.32.21
    Blank or @ 3600 A 216.239.34.21
    Blank or @ 3600 A 216.239.36.21
    Blank or @ 3600 A 216.239.38.21

    Also, you may configure the following AAAA records to support IPv6:

    Name/Host/Alias Time to Live (TTL*) Record Type Value/Answer/Destination
    Blank or @ 3600 AAAA 2001:4860:4802:32::15
    Blank or @ 3600 AAAA 2001:4860:4802:34::15
    Blank or @ 3600 AAAA 2001:4860:4802:36::15
    Blank or @ 3600 AAAA 2001:4860:4802:38::15

    Note: Time to Live (TTL) is the number of seconds before changes go into effect. In this example, the TTL is 86400 seconds (24 hours) at the time you modify the AAA records. The next time you make changes to the records, the TTL will 3600 seconds (1 hour).
  5. Save your changes. A record change can take up to 72 hours to fully take effect, but typically happens much sooner.

Need help or want to verify your change? To begin, see Troubleshoot A records. If you still need help after that, or if you can't configure your domain's DNS records, contact your domain host directly for assistance.
