Google Workspace mobile apps are built specifically for Android and Apple iOS devices. For improved security and performance, our engineering teams make use of new capabilities when updating an app. Most times, the enhancements are available only in the latest mobile operating system (OS).
What devices can get the latest update?
- For Android devices, we provide updates for the current and 2 previous Android versions. For example, when Android 10.0 is the most current release, we also provide updates for Android 9.0 Pie and Android 8.0 Oreo.
- For iOS devices, we provide updates for the current and previous major OS releases.
In both cases, we only support the official, unmodified OS versions. Additionally, Android devices need to be Android-compatible and have licensed Google Mobile Services.
What about an older OS?
We provide updates for older versions of Android and iOS on a best-effort basis. In most cases, an app will continue to operate, even if it isn’t updated for an older OS. Apps running on an OS that’s no longer supported might stop working without notice. We recommend that you always keep your OS and app up to date. We’ll provide notice if we plan to discontinue an app.
