Manage user devices from an Android device

Requires having the Mobile Device Management privilege.

As an administrator, you can use the Google Admin app to manage the devices that are used in your organization. You can see details about devices, block a device from syncing work data, wipe data from a lost device, and more.

Before you begin

If you haven’t already, you need to set up your device with the app. See Set up and open the Google Admin app on Android

View devices and details

View user devices and device details
  1. Open the Google Admin app .
  2. When prompted, enter your Google Account PIN.
  3. If necessary, switch to your administrator account: Tap Menu and thenthe Down arrow and thenyour admin account.
  4. Tap Menu and then Devices.

    Requires having the Mobile administrator privilege.

  5. (Optional) To filter the list of devices, tap All Devicesand thenselect a device state.
  6. Tap the device name to see details about the device.
  7. Choose an option:
    • To see information about the device user, including their email address and when they last signed in, tap the top panel.
    • To see more information about the device, including the first synchronization date and default language, in the bottom panel, tap See more
Search for devices

You can easily search for devices by the user’s name or email address, device model, or device operating system.

  1. Open the Google Admin app .
  2. When prompted, enter your Google Account PIN.
  3. If necessary, switch to your administrator account: Tap Menu and thenthe Down arrow and thenyour admin account.
  4. Tap Menu and then Devices.

    Requires having the Mobile administrator privilege.

  5. At the top, tap Search .
  6. (Optional) To filter your search, tap Alland thenselect a search criteria.
  7. Enter your search term and tap Search .
  8. Tap a device for details.

Manage devices

You can manage devices by going to the device or user’s page. The actions that you can perform depend on the device state.

Approve a device (Google Workspace)
  1. Open the Google Admin app .
  2. When prompted, enter your Google Account PIN.
  3. If necessary, switch to your administrator account: Tap Menu and thenthe Down arrow and thenyour admin account.
  4. Tap Menu and then Devices.
  5. Tap the device or user.
  6. Tap Approve select checkmarkand thenApprove. Or, next to the device name, tap More  and thenApprove deviceand thenApprove to confirm.
Block a device (Google Workspace)

Blocking a device prevents the device from accessing a managed Google Account in your organization. It also prevents future requests for access.

  1. Open the Google Admin app .
  2. When prompted, enter your Google Account PIN.
  3. If necessary, switch to your administrator account: Tap Menu and thenthe Down arrow and thenyour admin account.
  4. Tap Menu and then Devices.
  5. Tap the device or user.
  6. Tap Block and thenBlock. Or, next to the device name, tap More  and thenBlock deviceand thenBlock.
Delete a device

Deleting a device removes the device from the list of managed devices. No information is removed from the device. The user can no longer access their managed Google Account on the device.

  1. Open the Google Admin app .
  2. When prompted, enter your Google Account PIN.
  3. If necessary, switch to your administrator account: Tap Menu and thenthe Down arrow and thenyour admin account.
  4. Tap Menu and then Devices.
  5. Tap the device or user.
  6. Tap Delete and thenDelete. Or, next to the device name, tap  More and thenDelete deviceand thenDelete to confirm.
Wipe a device’s data

You can wipe the managed Google Account data on a device (account wipe) or all the device’s data (device wipe—Google Workspace only). For more information about the data that’s removed, see Decide what to wipe from the device

  1. Open the Google Admin app .
  2. When prompted, enter your Google Account PIN.
  3. If necessary, switch to your administrator account: Tap Menu and thenthe Down arrow and thenyour admin account.
  4. Tap Menu and then Devices.
  5. Tap the device or user.
  6. Next to the device name, tap More and thenWipe account or Wipe device.
  7. Tap Wipe.

Device states and actions

The actions that you can perform on a device depend on the device’s state.

Pending The device is requesting access to a managed Google Account in your organization.

Approved The device has access to Google services approved by an administrator.

Blocked The device is blocked from accessing any managed Google Account and from making any future requests for access.

Unprovisioned The device is not currently registered for device management. Delete
Deleted The device is removed from the list of approved devices. To access the Google service again, the device must make another request. No actions are available for deleted devices
Account-wiped All data from the managed Google Account has been removed from the device. Delete
Device-wiped All data has been removed from the device. Delete
