Lock a device and reset its password (Android)

Feature available only for Android devices in device owner mode that you add to your company-owned inventory. Learn more

As an administrator, you can protect your organization’s data by locking a company-owned Android device. You can also reset the device’s password.

Lock a device

If you lock a device, users must enter a password before they can use the device.

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

    Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Devicesand thenMobile devices.
  3. Select the device and click Lock Device.

Reset a device password

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

    Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Devicesand thenMobile devices.
  3. Select the device and click Reset Device Password.
  4. Enter and then confirm the new password.
    Make sure the passwords match and that they meet your company's requirements.
  5. Click Reset Password.
