Cancel your organization's Essentials subscription to:
- Stop using Essentials with your team or organization.
- Stop incurring new charges for Essentials services if you have a paid edition.
Important: You might still be charged for services used since your last payment. Learn more below - Free up your domain within 24 hours for use with a new Google Account. This requires canceling all subscriptions managed in your Admin console.
Step 1: Save your data
After you cancel Essentials and delete your organization's Google Account, user data and billing records will be deleted and can’t be restored. Before you continue, you will likely need to do the following tasks.
Essentials documents
Before you cancel your Essentials subscription, download any Drive files you want to save. Drive files will be deleted after you cancel Essentials.
For email-verified Essentials, be sure to save any shared drive data you need before you cancel.
The easiest way to download and export your users' data is to use the Data Export tool.
Other types of Google data
Before you delete your organization's Google Account, export or transfer ownership of other assets you want to save. For example, YouTube channels, photos, and Google Ads accounts will be deleted after you delete your account.

Save billing records (recommended)
After you delete your organization's Google Account, you can’t access your billing records. Before you delete, you should first print payment receipts and save monthly invoices.
Delete Marketplace apps
Before deleting your organization's Google Account, you need to delete any apps you've installed from the Google Workspace Marketplace.

- If necessary, delete your Marketplace apps.
Save and delete Google Cloud projects
Before you can delete your organization's Google Account, you need to delete all associated Google Cloud projects and folders. To save Google Cloud projects, you can migrate projects out of your organization. If you need assistance, contact Google Cloud Support.
You can find Google Cloud resources associated with your organization and learn how to delete them at Viewing and managing organization resources.
To delete Google Cloud projects and folders you need permissions to modify Google Cloud projects and folders. You need the necessary Cloud IAM roles, including the Organization Administrator, Folder Admin, and Project Deleter roles.
You also need to delete the following if your organization has them:
- Apps Script projects—Learn how to find and delete Apps Script projects at Get a list of Apps Script Google Cloud projects.
- Access Context Manager policies—Use the gcloud command-line tool or the API to Delete an access policy.
Step 2: Cancel your Essentials subscription
Find steps below, depending on whether you verified your domain to use with Essentials. If you have a paid edition of Essentials, canceling your subscription stops further charges for Essentials services

After you cancel your subscription
After you cancel Essentials, you can do any of the following:
- Keep managing your other subscriptions from your Admin console.
- Start a new Essentials subscription in your existing account—You can add a new Essentials subscription within 21 days of canceling and keep your data. Otherwise, you'll need to wait until after 84 days and start over. Follow steps at Add a paid subscription to your account.
- Delete your organization's Google Account—Requires canceling all subscriptions. This frees your domain within 24 hours for use with a new Google Account. Follow steps at Delete your organization's Google Account.
These steps cancel your email-verified subscription. During cancellation, you can choose to:
- Save or delete data.
- Retain or delete your organization's Google Account.

Delete all team data and your account, but keep user data Select Let users keep their data and delete my organization's account
All your Essentials users' data in My Drive stays with the user accounts, which will be converted to unmanaged consumer accounts. Users can sign in to their accounts using their same credentials and access Essentials data in their My Drive, such as Drive files and Chat history.
You instruct Google to not delete Essentials data on cancellation and waive any rights to own and manage the data. This action can't be reversed.
Your organization’s Google Account will be deleted, including all data in shared drives, and your groups, organizational units, and billing records.
You’ll be signed out of your Admin console and returned to the Google Workspace Home page. You can no longer sign in to the Admin console.
Delete all team and user data within 90 days, with the option to delete your account afterward Select Delete users' data
All user data in My Drive and organization data in shared drives will be deleted. Deletion can take up to 90 days, and users can’t access Drive during this period.
After the data is deleted, you can delete your organization’s Google Account, which frees your domain within 24 hours for use with a new Google Account. After you delete your organization’s account, all user accounts will be converted to unmanaged consumer accounts, and users can access Drive again.
If you can't wait 90 days for deletion, you can request an accelerated deletion of user data in My Drive. The accelerated process deletes only Drive data. To request accelerated deletion, contact Google Workspace Support.If you don't delete your organization's Google Account, you can add a new Essentials subscription. Follow the steps at Add a new subscription.
- Enter the email address associated with your account.
- Click Cancel My Subscription.
- If a status message appears, click Close.

Yes. If you haven’t deleted your organization’s Google Account, you can resubscribe to Essentials within 21 days of cancelling to stop the cancel process and keep your data.
After you cancel your subscription, you’re billed at the start of the next month for any outstanding charges in your account. The amount is calculated according to your service and billing plan:
- Flexible Plan—You’re charged for the days you used the service. For example, if you cancel on the 15th of this month, you're billed for half a month of service.
- Annual/Fixed-Term Plan—You’re charged for the remaining balance of your commitment, if you have one.
- Essentials (paid edition)—You’re charged the full monthly cost for each active user in that month. Learn more about How Essentials billing works.
