Troubleshoot common GCRS issues

Important: Google has announced that it will shut down GCRS and discontinue product support and maintenance on November 20, 2024. After this date, the product might not work as expected, and support services will not be available to assist you.

You might need to refer to event logs when troubleshooting an issue with Google Calendar Resource Sync (GCRS). The system creates the log database during setup.

What’s logged?

The system logs:

  • Product authorization
  • Loading and provisioning resources
  • Resource-level synchronization events
  • Conflict reports

If you turn on detailed event logging, the system logs:

  • Event-level synchronization events, such as inserts, updates, and cancellations
  • Calendar conflicts for each resource

Events more than 7 days old are deleted from the event log daily.

Before you begin

  1. Meet all the system requirements and verify that your servers are set up correctly.

    For details, go to About Google Calendar Resource Sync.

  2. Complete all the steps in Install & prepare GCRS.

Step 1: Turn on detailed event logging

You can turn on detailed event logging to see event-level synchronization items, including inserts, updates, and cancellations. You can also view calendar conflicts for each resource.

To turn on detailed event logging:

  1. Open GCRS and click System Setup.
  2. Click the Advanced tab and, for Detailed event logging, select Enabled.

Step 2: Allow one sync cycle to complete

A synchronization runs approximately every hour. You can check the event log to verify the cycle is complete.

Step 3: Export log database as structured text

Occasionally, you may need to provide copies of the GCRS log database to Google Workspace support for analysis. To export the GCRS log database as structured text:

  1. To open the log databases, choose an option:
    • In the admin database, click Open Log and select the GCRS log database.
    • In the HCL Notes client and Domino administrator, navigate to the GCRS installation in the migration folder.
  2. Select the documents in the log to be examined.

    If you're not sure, select the entire log.

  3. Click Export.
  4. Accept or change the output file path (the default path is c:\temp\export.txt) and click OK.

If you're still experiencing issues with GCRS, contact Google Workspace support and include as much of the following information as possible:

  • The name and email address of the affected resource on both systems
  • The event ID of at least one event that didn't sync
  • An export of the GCRS log database as structured text
  • The steps that cause the problem
