With Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook (GWSMO), you normally create a profile to access Google Workspace from Outlook when you first install the product. However, if you need to create another profile for a different Google Workspace account, or if you need to re-create your original profile, here's what to do.
Step 1: Remove your profile
Before you can re-create your profile, you must remove the existing profile from Outlook. This action doesn't remove any data from your Google Workspace account but it does delete settings you made in Outlook. These settings include your email signature, rules, and custom category definitions.
Consult your Microsoft documentation on how to remove an Outlook profile.
Step 2: Re-create your profile
To re-create your profile, follow these steps:
- In the Start menu, click Google Workspace SyncSet up a Google Workspace Sync user.
- Enter the email address for your Google Account and click Continue.
- Enter your password and click Next.
- Click Allow to provide GWSMO access to your Google Account.
- In the Set Up Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook box, check the Import data from an existing profile box.
Make sure the Outlook profile is selected.
- Do not check any boxes to specify the type of data to import. Data from Google Workspace services automatically syncs to the new profile when it's created. Learn more
- (Optional) Check the Send crash reports and usage statistics to Google box. Learn more
- Click Show advanced settings.
- Check the Turn AutoArchive off box to keep a copy of all your archived messages.
Your archived messages will go to a new archived folder synced with your Google Account. Learn more
- Click Create profile.
Your data begins importing into Google Workspace.
- To start using Outlook, follow these steps.
If you're re-creating your original profile, and you imported your mail, calendar, contacts, or notes the first time you created this profile, do not re-import this data now. It's still in your Google Workspace account and will be there when you open the new profile—re-importing causes duplicates. You can re-import tasks and journal entries as Google Workspace does not store them and therefore won't be duplicated.
If you've never imported data into this Google Workspace account, go ahead and import now.
