With TalkBack 9.1, you can use multi-finger gestures, navigate with reading controls, and use voice commands.
Important: Multi-finger gestures are only available:
- On TalkBack 9.1, on updated Pixel 3 and up
- On some other OEM devices, like Samsung Galaxy
- Starting in March 2021
TalkBack menu
The global and local context menus and the circular menu are combined into an improved TalkBack menu.
To open the TalkBack menu:
- On devices with multi-finger gestures: Three-finger tap. Or, in one motion, swipe down then right.
- On devices without multi-finger gestures (prior to updated Android R with TalkBack 9.1): In one motion, swipe down then right.
Reading controls
TalkBack navigation settings are now reading controls.
To open reading controls:
- On devices with multi-finger gestures: Three-finger swipe right to left, or up and down. Or one-finger swipe up then down, or down then up.
- On versions of TalkBack prior to 9.1: One-finger swipe up then down, or down then up.
Multi-finger gestures
Multi-finger gestures give you more options and new ways to complete common actions. You can use multi-finger gestures on updated Android R on Pixel 3 and some other OEM devices with TalkBack 9.1. Voice commands
You can activate important TalkBack commands with your voice. To use voice commands, swipe right then up, then speak a command. Learn more about TalkBack voice commands.
Braille keyboard
Important: Spanish and Arabic braille are now available with the braille keyboard.
With the braille keyboard, you can use tabletop mode or screen-away mode. By default, your device detects the orientation of the device and switches modes automatically. Learn how to use the TalkBack braille keyboard.
Settings
TalkBack settings are reorganized to give you more options for common settings. More advanced settings like sound feedback are now grouped by categories. Learn more about TalkBack settings.
Troubleshoot
When you come across a long block of text, TalkBack may experience a delay for several seconds. After a short period of time, the issue resolves itself.
