Using a non-SDK, tag-based video solution

Implementing a tag-based video solution for Ad Exchange demand without the use of the IMA SDK is a beta offering and might not be available for your network. You can contact your account manager for more information.

In instances where it is technically infeasible to integrate your website or application on mobile or CTV devices with the IMA SDK, or you are monetizing inventory on a platform/device where an IMA SDK is not supported, a tag-based approach to monetization can be used. For these types of implementations, you as the publisher must generate the video ad tags in Ad Manager and ensure all of the required parameters are correctly and accurately populated in the ad request.

Generate a VAST ad tag URL

  1. Generate the video ad tag from the Ad Manager interface.
  2. Ensure all required parameters are included, and modify the tag, if needed.

    See the full list of required and optional parameters to be appended to the ad request when an SDK is not present. You can also see a subset of the parameters required for web or app.

  3. Review and take advantage of the URL parameters that are not explicitly required to serve video ads, but are recommended to ensure maximum programmatic performance.

Ensure compliance with IAB standards

In addition to ensuring video ad requests sent to Ad Manager contain all the required and recommended values needed for optimal ad serving performance, it's also recommended that you ensure compliance with other critical IAB standards that are supported by default in the IMA SDK.

Map CTV app ID to applicable ad unit

When you create an ad unit, associate it with a claimed CTV app. Ad requests from the mapped ad unit are then populated with the corresponding App Name, App Id, App Store URL, Platform and Device Info, and inferred Content Labels used to populate Brand Safety information.

Set up video configurations which determine creative eligibility. The configurations can then be specified in your ad tag to control which video creatives are eligible to serve to different platforms.
