Ad units

Create an In-feed ad unit

There are two ways to create an In-feed ad unit. The quickest and easiest is for Google to scan your page and automatically create the ad for you. Alternatively, you can create your In-feed ad manually.

Note: If your feed is text-only, use the manual method to create your In-feed ad.
  1. Sign in to your AdSense account.
  2. Click Ads.
  3. Click By ad unit.
  4. Select In-feed ads.
  5. Choose how you'd like to create your In-feed ad:

Let Google suggest a style (recommended)

    1. Enter the URL of the page that contains your feed.
    2. Select either the "Mobile" or "Desktop" version of your site.

We'll style your In-feed ad based on your feed. If you have mobile and desktop versions of your feed, you might want to create a separate In-Feed ad for each version.

    3. Click Scan page.
    4. The ad preview page opens. Here you can see a screenshot of your site with its feeds highlighted and a preview area for your In-feed ad.

To get you started, we create an In-feed ad based on the second feed item in the first feed we found on your site. Select a different feed item on your page and we'll automatically create a new In-Feed ad that matches its layout and style.

If you'd like to try scanning a different page with feeds: enter the URL, select either "Mobile" or "Desktop", then click Rescan.
    5. Click Next.
    6. (Optional) Use the controls to further customize your In-feed ad to match your feed. Learn more about In-feed ad settings.
    7. If you haven't already, give your In-feed ad unit a name.
We recommend you prefix the names of your In-feed ad units with "Native" or similar to help you track their performance.
    8. Click Save and get code.

    Create style manually

    1. Select a layout that best matches your feed's look and feel.
    2. Click Next.
    3. Give your In-feed ad unit a name.
We recommend you prefix the names of your In-feed ad units with "Native" or something similar to help you track their performance.
    4. Style your ad to match your feed. For more information about In-feed ad settings and styling your ad, see: Customize your In-feed ad.
Remember, you don't want to trick your visitors into clicking your ad. The goal is to create an ad that's non-intrusive and doesn't break the user's flow.
    5. Test how your ad will appear on different screen sizes by changing the container width of the feed in the preview area. Use the drag handle to change the width.
Note that In-feed ads are responsive by default which means that they automatically adjust their size for the device they're being viewed on. Learn more about the In-feed responsive ad size.
    6. Click Save and get code.
  6. Copy and paste the In-feed ad code on your site inside the HTML of your feed. Learn how to place your In-feed ad code.

It usually takes a few minutes for ads to appear on the page but occasionally it can take up to an hour.

Note that some of the elements of your In-feed ad (e.g., the "Ad" label) might appear slightly different on your site than they do in the preview area. For example, if the area you've saved for your In-feed ad is smaller than the ad itself. In this situation, we'll show an expandable version of the ad to ensure that there's no reflow on your page and to preserve the user experience.

Tracking the performance of In-feed ad units

You can track the performance of your In-feed ad units by viewing your Ad units report:

  1. Visit your Reports page.
  2. Open the Ad units report.
  3. Select your In-feed ad units.
  4. Click Filter.

You can now see performance data for your In-feed ad units.
