Access the web on your Smart Display

On Smart Displays, you can get web results from Google Assistant or go directly to a website. This lets you find more info about a topic and more helpful answers to your questions.

When the web or a website is unavailable

As of 2022, Google’s Assistant-enabled Smart Displays can open the web through SafeSearch technology, which may block explicit websites. Certain third-party devices don’t support SafeSearch. If you allow websites on these third-party devices, people who use third-party Smart Displays will not be able to view the web with SafeSearch.

Tip: For Digital Wellbeing filters like website access to work correctly, your devices and apps must be up to date.

Supported Smart Displays:

Tip: In the "Digital Wellbeing" settings menu, you can manage the Websites setting.

  • For Smart Displays with SafeSearch: Websites are allowed by default.
  • For Smart Displays without SafeSearch: Websites are blocked by default.

Learn why the web might be turned off

Through the web, anyone can open content that may be blocked on a Smart Display by Digital Wellbeing settings or for a child's account. Your Smart Display blocks the web by default if:

  • A child's account is linked to it.
  • You turn on content filters in Digital Wellbeing settings, like answers or video filters.
  • You don't allow websites.

At anytime, you can choose to allow websites in Digital Wellbeing settings.

Learn why explicit websites are filtered

Anyone nearby can see or hear results on a Smart Display. To help ensure a safer experience for everyone, if your Smart Display is equipped with SafeSearch, it tries to filter any explicit website.
