You can change the sound of your Google Assistant’s voice. When you change the voice, it applies to all of your Assistant devices.
Google Assistant on phone or tablet
- On most Assistant-enabled devices, say "Hey Google, open Assistant settings."
- Under "All settings," tap Assistant voice.
- Choose a voice.
Change the language of your Google Assistant’s voice

On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google app .

At the bottom right, tap More Settings Voice Language.

Choose a language.
Important: If your Google Assistant reads text messages in the wrong language, remove English as a secondary language. Then change your Google Assistant’s voice language to match your Google Assistant’s language.
Google Assistant on speaker or Smart Display
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Home app .
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial Assistant settings.
- Under "All settings," tap Assistant voice.
- Choose a voice.
Turn off speech output
When you turn off Speech Output, your Google Assistant will show you responses on your phone, but it won't say them out loud. If you want to stop your Google Assistant from replying with sound, you can change your settings.
- On most Assistant-enabled devices, say "Hey Google, open Assistant settings."
- Under "All settings," tap Assistant voice.
- Under "Speech output," select your phone or tablet.
- Tap Hands-free only.
Choose a kid-friendly Assistant voice for child accounts
Important: Kid-friendly Assistant voices are only available on Google Accounts for children. This feature isn’t available in all languages, countries, or devices.
To choose a kid-friendly voice for Google Assistant, you'll need an Assistant-enabled device set up with a child’s Google Account. On shared devices, you'll also need to set up Voice Match for your child.
To change the Assistant voice for your child’s account:
- On your child’s device or a shared device with your child’s account connected, have your child say “Hey Google, change your voice.”
- You can also choose a voice for your child’s Google Assistant in their Assistant settings.
- Listen to the different voice examples.
- To choose a voice, tap the box.
- When your Assistant asks to confirm, you can say "Yes," "No," or "Cancel."
Tip: You can also choose a kid-friendly voice for your Assistant on enabled speakers. You or your child can say, “Hey Google, change your voice,” and follow the prompts.
