When you access the Query Tool, you are presented with a list of any existing queries that you have created. If you haven't yet created any queries, the system displays a message "No queries found". This page provides quick access to some basic query tasks and displays vital query information in the form of sortable columns:
- Name: Name and description of the query
You can see further query setting details by placing your cursor over the query name.
- Creation date: Date of query creation and time stamp
- Last run: Date and time stamp of the last successful query run
- RUN NOW link: Immediately run the query
From the queries list page, you can perform the following tasks:
Create or edit a query (click on the query name to access and edit the query details)
- From the left sidebar, click My queries.
- From the "My queries" list page, select the query you want to adjust. You can only select to copy one query at a time.
- Click Make a copy. If you are editing your query, the button name reads Make a copy of the original query.
- Update your dimensions and metrics.
- To complete the process, you have four options:
- Run your report (you can return to save or apply additional edits to the query at a later time)
- Save query and run report
- Save query (no report is generated)
- Preview report layout
- From the left sidebar, click My queries.
- Click the checkbox at the top of the list to select all the queries in your list.
- (Optional) You can deselect individual queries as needed.
- Click Delete queries.
A default query is set to automatically run when the Query Tool is accessed. No default is set on your account, so you can decide which query works best for you. You are able to set only one default query at a time. This default can be selected from any query stored in either My queries or System queries. If there is any recurring schedule set on the default query you select, the scheduling is not affected by setting the query as your default. The only change is the "Last run" date displayed on the My queries management list page.
- From the left sidebar, click My queries.
- From the My queries list page, select the query you want to set as your default.
- Click Set as default query. A "DEFAULT" label appears prefixed to your query name. The next time you log into the Query Tool, the query will automatically run.
You can set a default query to automatically run each time the Query Tool is accessed in a couple of ways:
- Method 1: Select the query from the "My queries" screen and click Default query.
- Method 2: Go to the "System queries" screen. Select any of the predefined queries and click Copy to My queries. Edit the query, if needed, and save. At this point, follow Method 1.
