Conversion domains

A conversion domain is the site where you expect a user to land on after clicking on your ad. When you register conversion domains, Campaign Manager 360 can better attribute your conversion events. 

How it works

Campaign Manager 360 works with Chrome’s Privacy Sandbox Attribution Reporting API for conversion measurement without third-party cookies. The Attribution Reporting API records the conversion event if the site where the user converts matches the registered conversion domain.

A conversion domain is defined as eTLD+1, which is an effective top-level domain (eTLD) with a second-level domain. An eTLD is a suffix from the Public Suffix List. Common eTLDs include “com”, “org”, or country code top-level domains such as “de”. Sometimes the eTLD contains multiple parts, such as “co.uk” or “withgoogle.com”. Examples of eTLD+1 include “google.com” and “experiments.withgoogle.com”.

When you register a conversion domain, it should have the following:

  • A scheme. For example, “https://”.
  • A second-level domain. For example, “google” or “experiments”.
  • An eTLD. This should be a suffix from the Public Suffix List. For example, “com” or “withgoogle.com”.

Set conversion domains

To register conversion domains for a placement, you can do one of the following:

  • Turn on the "Automatically infer conversion domains" setting: Campaign Manager 360 automatically registers three conversion domains for the placement. The inferred conversion domains are the domains where users convert from most often for the placement's Floodlight configuration. Campaign Manager 360 updates the conversion domains daily based on recent conversion activity. This setting is on by default.
  • Turn off the "Automatically infer conversion domains" setting: You can manually register up to three conversion domains. This can be helpful if the site where you expect a user to land is not one of the inferred conversion domains. The conversion domains you set will not be updated based on conversion activity.

Considerations

  • Edits to the "Automatically infer conversion domains" setting will only affect the placement you edited and not other placements in the Floodlight configuration.
  • If you manually register your conversion domain, keep in mind the following:
    • Domains should have “https://” at the beginning. 
    • Domains with different country extensions are counted separately. For example, “https://google.com” and “https://google.de” are two different conversion domains.
    • Domains that have the same eTLD but different second-level domains are counted separately. For example, if “withgoogle.com” is the eTLD, then “https://skillshop.withgoogle.com” and “https://experiments.withgoogle.com” are two different conversion domains. 
    • Domains that redirect to the same destination are not counted separately. For example, “https://maps.google.com” and “https://google.com/maps” are the same conversion domain.

Edit conversion domains for a placement

  1. Navigate to an existing placement or create a new one.
  2. Open the Conversion domains section.
  3. Check “Automatically infer domains” to use the domains that users convert from most often. Otherwise, turn off “Automatically infer domains” and enter one to three domains.
  4. Click Save.
