You can personalize your Chromebook with a custom wallpaper or screen saver.
Important: If you use your Chromebook at work or school, your administrator might not let you change your wallpaper or screen saver. If you can't make changes, contact your administrator for more help.
Choose a background wallpaper
- On your Chromebook, right-click your desktop.
- Select Set wallpaper & style Wallpaper.
- Select one of the images to set as your wallpaper. You can also select the wallpaper to change daily or refresh.
- To choose a wallpaper with a light or dark theme, select Radiance.
- To set a custom wallpaper with an image downloaded to your Chromebook, select My Images.
- To use a personal photo saved in your Google Photos, select Google Photos.
Tips:
- If you select an image from a Shared album, others can still add or edit photos within the album while the album is used for wallpapers.
- You can also use wallpapers that change to match the time with Chromebook Plus. Learn more about Chromebook Plus.
- If you experience trouble setting your wallpaper, make sure the image is in a supported format, like .png or .jpg.
Important: As of now, this feature is only available for Chromebook Plus.
You can use AI to create your own wallpapers for your Chromebook.
- On your Chromebook, right-click your desktop.
- Select Set wallpaper & style Wallpaper.
- Under “Exclusive for Chromebook Plus,” select Create with AI.
- Select a theme.
- Click on the underlined words to change your preference.
- Select either:
- Inspire Me: To generate random options.
- Create: To use your choices.
Tip: Your most recently used images are available in the “Create with AI” space.
To create unique themes for your device, you can customize your accent colors to match your wallpapers. The accent colors also adjust to the light and dark modes.
Use the same wallpaper across multiple Chromebooks
- On your Chromebook, right-click your desktop.
- Select Set wallpaper & style.
- Under “Accent colors,” turn Use color sets that match your wallpaper on or off.
- Select one of the color schemes.
- On your Chromebook, right-click your desktop.
- Select Settings .
- Under “Privacy and security,” select Sync and Google services Manage what you sync.
- Select what you want to sync.
- To use the same settings across Chromebooks, including wallpaper, on every Chromebook you sign in to, turn on Sync everything.
Choose your screen saver
Important: School and work accounts can't access the screen saver option.
Choose or change your screen saver
- On your Chromebook, right-click your desktop.
- Select Set wallpaper & style Screen saver.
- To turn on the screen saver, on the right, select the toggle ON .
- To have your photos displayed and animated within simulated frames. You can select from:
- Under “Screen saver animation,” select Slide show, Feel the breeze, or Float on by.
- To set an album as your screen saver, select Google Photos or Art gallery.
Tips:
- To conserve battery, the screensaver only runs while on charging. The screensaver will run for the duration you selected, and your Chromebook won't go to Sleep mode during this time.
- If you select an image from a Shared album, others can still add or edit photos within the album while the album is used for screensavers.
- Each Chromebook Plus Dawn to Dark wallpaper comes with its paired screensaver, which animates throughout the day.
- If you select the image source, you can choose from two screensavers.
You can decide how long your screen saver displays before your computer goes to sleep.
- On your Chromebook, right-click your desktop.
- Select Set Wallpaper and style Screensaver.
- Turn on the screen saver.
- To set how long the screensaver runs while charging, select your preferred display time from dropdown:
- for 5 minutes
- for 10 minutes
- for 30 minutes
- for 1 hour
- forever: This is the default.
