Percentages and overlap
Add up response percentages for these answers, and you'll get over 100%. You might wonder, how can percentages add up to more than 100?
Or, you may already be aware of the "multiple answers" question type. It shows a checkbox next to every answer, so one respondent can select multiple answers:
When you add answer percentages for this kind of question, you double-count respondents who selected two answers, and triple-count those who selected three. So, adding percentages is rarely the right thing to do. Instead, you can use raw counts to see how many individual answers were selected for each answer option.
