(CSS) How to fix: Different product landing page

Your participation in the opportunity to show CSS product pages across Google has either been warned or suspended due to this error

On this page

Why this issue is happening

For one or more of your product pages, the CSS product pages submitted to Google or your headline offer landing pages direct customers to a different product rather than the one submitted to Google. When clicking on your CSS product pages on Google and afterwards on the headline offer on your website, customers expect to be redirected to a product page that is dedicated to the product shown on Google.

Some common reasons for this violation include:

  • You provided the incorrect CSS product page and/or headline offer URL in your product data.
  • You included the incorrect headline offer URL on your website.
  • A CSS product page or a headline offer landing page is missing some key elements of your product, such as the title, description, and image. Note that the title, description, and images listed for your product on its landing page don’t always need to be identical to the content in your product data, but they should refer to the same product.
  • The product is out of stock and the website redirects to a page with a similar product.

When providing your product data, ensure the following:

  • For wireless products and services, the title in your product attributes should follow our best practices for listing wireless products and services.
  • For customized products, your product attributes must follow our best practices for listing customized products.
  • If you have provided a serial number or other unique identifiers, it must match the value on the landing page.
  • For bundles, the bundle should be purchasable on the landing page instead of buying individual items separately.
  • For individual items, the item can be purchased without a bundle.

You should’ve received a warning asking you to update your CSS product pages and/or headline offer landing pages to direct to correct product-specific landing pages by a certain date.

How to fix your issue

  1. Investigate your update process to find what could be causing the problem:
  • Look for a common problem in your product data that could cause the problem.
  • Test some of your links using the URL Inspection Tool, available through Google Search Console, before submitting your new products. If you’re submitting many new product pages, use this tool on a few links to help you detect issues before submitting product data.
  • Make sure you’re updating your product data, links on your CSS product page at the same time. Use the CSS API to immediately update your product data.
  1. After you’ve addressed the problem, update your product data and CSS product pages with the correct links.
