You can add images under 50 MB in .png, .jpg, or .gif format. Follow the image usage guidelines. SVG file format isn't supported.
- On your computer, open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
- Click the cell where you want to add an image.
- Click Insert Image.
- Select to place your image in the cell or over the the cells. Cells with an image cannot also have text.
- Choose an image or take a snapshot.
- Click Open or Select.
Add an image from your desktop or the web
Copy an image from your desktop or the web and paste it directly into your document, presentation, or spreadsheet. It may take a moment for your image to appear.
Use a function to add an image
- Size to fit:
=IMAGE(“URL”)
,=IMAGE(“URL”, 1)
- Stretch to fit:
=IMAGE(“URL”, 2)
- Original size:
=IMAGE(“URL”, 3)
- Custom size:
=IMAGE(“URL”, 4, [height in pixels], [width in pixels])
Replace an image that's over the cells
- On your computer, open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
- Click the image you want to replace.
- In the top-right corner of the image, click More Replace image.
- Choose an image.
- Click Replace or Select.

Move an image
- To move an image from one cell to another, use cut and paste.
- To move an image that's over the cells, click and drag it.
- To move an image from inside a cell to over the cells, right click the image and click Put image over cells.

To move an image from over the cells to inside a cell:

Click the cell you want to place the image in.

Click the image More Put image in selected cell.

Tip: To move more than one item at the same time, press CTRL or Command and click the items you want to move.
- On your computer, open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets.
- Click the image you want to change.
- Drag the blue markers to resize the image.
Tip: To resize more than one item by the same amount, press CTRL or Command and click the items you want to resize.
