You can leave and read comments on Microsoft Office files, PDFs, images, and other files in Google Drive.

Comment on Microsoft Office files

You can leave a comment on specific text, cell, or section of a Microsoft Office file. The comments will still appear when you open the file in Microsoft Office.

If you don’t have Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides installed on your iPhone or iPad:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Drive app.
  2. Tap the file you want to comment on.
  3. At the top, tap Comment Comment and then New.
  4. Enter your comment and tap Comment.

Comment on PDFs, images, and Powerpoint presentations

You can comment on specific sections of a PDF, image, or Powerpoint presentation.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Drive app.
  2. Tap the PDF, Powerpoint, or image you want to comment on.
  3. At the top right, tap Add comment Comment and then New.
  4. Tap where you want to add the comment. You can move your comment box by tapping and dragging.
    • To comment on specific text, tap and hold the text and then Add comment​.
  5. Tap Add comment here.
  6. Enter your comment and tap Done Done.

To see comments, at the top right, tap Add comment Comment.

Comment on video, audio, and other files
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Drive app.
  2. Tap the file you want to comment on.
  3. At the top right, tap Add comment Comment and then New.
  4. Enter your comment and tap Done Done.

Resolve conflicts between versions of the same file 

If someone uploads a new version of the file, it will replace the existing file in Google Drive. Any comments added outside of Google Drive will replace comments made in Drive. Any edits made outside of Google Drive will also remove all resolved or inactive comments.

How sharing affects files

When you share Microsoft Office files, PDFs, images, or other file types with someone, you can choose what they can do with it.

  • View: People can view comments, but can’t make new comments or share the file with others.
  • Comment: People can make comments and suggestions, but can’t change or share the file with others.
  • Edit: People can make comments and changes to the file, accept or reject suggestions, and share the file with others.
