Set up Assignments LTI™/Drive LTI™ in Canvas

This article is for admins.

Important: By setting up Assignments in Canvas, Workspace users may choose to submit Docs and student grades to Canvas. Canvas Terms and Privacy Policy will apply to data once it's transferred to Canvas.

To set up Assignments in Canvas, you need to:

  1. Turn on Google Assignments as an authorized external tool.
  2. Add Google Assignments as an application to Canvas.

These steps might require assistance from your learning management system (LMS) administrator.

Step 1: Turn on Google Assignments as an authorized external tool

  1. In Canvas, sign in as an administrator.
  2. Click Adminand thenDeveloper Keys.  

    Note: If you don't have the Developer Keys option, you might not have the admin privileges needed to enable the tool. To try to complete the installation on your own, skip to step 2 below. If step 2 fails and says the key is disabled, you need a Canvas root account admin to complete these steps. 
  3. In Developer Keys, click Inherited.
     
  4. In Inherited, next to Google Assignments, click On.

    Note: To see Google Assignments on the list, you might need to scroll down or click Show All Keys.  
  5. Copy 170000000000573 to your clipboard. You'll need it in Step 2. 
Step 2: Add Google Assignments as an application to Canvas
  1. In Canvas, sign in as an administrator.
  2. Click Adminand thenSettings.
    Click Settings
  3. Click Appsand thenView App Configurations.
    Click View App Configurations
  4. To set up the Assignments tool, click + App.
    Click +App
  5. Under Add App, change configuration type to By Client ID.
    Click Submit
  6. Enter or paste 170000000000573 as the Client IDand thenclick Submit.
  7. Click Install.

 

Tip: Google Assignments LTI 1.3 does not support custom instances of Canvas.
