Mark with a rubric

This article is for teachers.

You can use a rubric to mark and give feedback. You can mark rubrics from the Student work page or the marking tool.

After you start marking, you can't edit or delete the assignment's rubric.

You aren't required to attach rubrics to marked assignments.

See a rubric while marking

  1. On a computer, go to classroom.google.com.
  2. Click the class and then Classwork.
  3. Click the assignment and then View assignment and then the student's file.
  4. In the right column, click Marking .
  5. To expand or collapse a criterion's description, click the down arrow or up arrow .

Select a rating for each criterion

The rubric score automatically updates as you select rating levels.

  1. On a computer, go to classroom.google.com.
  2. Click the class and then Classwork.
  3. Click the assignment and then View assignment and then the student's file.
  4. In the right column, click Marking .
  5. To assign a rating level for each criterion, choose one:
    • Click a rating level for each criterion.
      Note: To undo your selection, in the expanded criterion, click Clear .
    • If you're using the criterion for scoring, enter a number.

Manually change the total mark

You can manually enter a new mark for a student's assignment without changing your level selections.

  1. On a computer, go to classroom.google.com.
  2. Click the class and then Classwork.
  3. Click the assignment and then View assignment and then the student's file.
  4. In the right column, click Marking .
  5. Under Mark, manually enter a mark for the student's assignment.

  1. Click the class and then Classwork and then the assignment.
  2. Click View assignment.
  3. On the Student work page, on the left, click a student's name.
  4. Choose an option:
    • To expand or collapse all criteria, on the right, click Expand criteria or Collapse criteria .
    • To expand or collapse individual criteria, next to a criterion, click Expand or Collapse .

Select a rating for each criterion

You can select rating levels with criteria expanded or collapsed. Classroom automatically saves your selections and calculates a total mark.

  1. Click the class and then Classwork and then the assignment.
  2. Click View assignment.
  3. On the Student work page, on the left, click a student's name.
  4. To select a rating level, choose an option:
    • Under a criterion, click a rating level.
    • Next to a criterion's points, enter the student's points.
      Classroom selects the rating level for the points that you enter.
  5. (Optional) To undo your selection, in the expanded criterion, click Clear .

Manually change the total mark

You can manually enter a new mark for a student's assignment without changing your level selections.

  1. Click the class and then Classwork and then the assignment.
  2. Click View assignment.
  3. On the Student work page, click the student's mark that you want to change.
  4. Enter a new mark for the student.
    The mark saves automatically.
  5. (Optional) To return the student's new mark, next to the mark, click More and then Return.
