Export marks to your student information system (SIS) student record

This article is for teachers. Administrators, go here.

To use SIS integration features, all teachers must have one of the following:

  • A Google Workspace for Education Plus licence
  • A Teaching and Learning Upgrade licence

Starting on 9 July 2024, you must have one of these licences in order to use the mark export feature.

If you use Classroom with Google Workspace for Education, you can connect Classroom to your SIS. After your administrator configures the connection, you can link your classes and use SIS integration features like importing student rosters and exporting marks to SIS. Learn more about SIS integration features.

Important: SIS integration is available with numerous partners. Other SIS partnerships are in development. Learn about SIS integration partnership status.

Link a class and export marks

Link a class to your SIS

Before you can export marks for the first time, you have to link your class to the SIS. You only have to link a class once. Only the primary teacher can link a class to the SIS. You can link a new or existing class.

Link a new class

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign in.

Sign in with your Google Account. For example, [email protected] or [email protected]Learn more.

  2. Click Add and then Create class.
  3. Next to Link with, click the down arrow and select your class from the list.

Tip: If your class isn't on the list, the class isn't set up in your SIS. You can finish creating your class now, and follow the steps to link an existing class later.

  4. To finish creating your class, enter your class details and then click Create.

Your new class is linked to the SIS.

Link an existing class

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign in.

Sign in with your Google Account. For example, [email protected] or [email protected]Learn more.

  2. Click the class and then Settings .
  3. Under General, click Link to class.
    Link to class
  4. Under Link class, click the down arrow and choose your class from the menu.

Tip: Only classes that list you as the primary teacher in the SIS show in the menu. If you don't see your class, go to Troubleshoot SIS mark export.
  5. Click Link.

You can now export returned marks to your SIS.

Export marks to your SIS

After you link your class to the SIS, you can export marks. You can only export returned marks. Draft marks don't export to your SIS.

To submit past due assignments, manually mark them as 'Missing' or 'Complete'.

Tip: To export marks successfully, classwork needs a due date in the current SIS marking period. To change a due date, go to Edit an assignment.

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign in.

Sign in with your Google Account. For example, [email protected] or [email protected]Learn more.

  2. Click the class and then Marks.
  3. On the right, click SIS export.
    Export grades
  4. Marks export for any classwork with a ticked box. For any marks that you don't want to export, untick the box. Classwork that you don't export this time shows under Previously excluded on your next export.
Tip: Under Mark updates, you see the number of returned marks since your last export.
  5. Click SIS export.

If any marks fail to export, check the export status or go to Troubleshoot SIS mark export.

Check export status

After you export marks, you can view an export status report.

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign in.

Sign in with your Google Account. For example, [email protected] or [email protected]Learn more.

  2. Click the class and then Marks.
  3. Next to SIS export, click the down arrow and then Last export details.

Tip: You can also view the report from the notification that you get when an export finishes. On the notification, click View details.

Unlink a class

If you unlink your class from the SIS, you can't export marks. If you link the class again later and export marks, duplicate mark entries will show in your SIS. To avoid duplicate marks when you relink a class, delete the assignment in the SIS, then export marks.

  1. Go to classroom.google.com and click Sign in.

Sign in with your Google Account. For example, [email protected] or [email protected]Learn more.

  2. Click the class and then Settings .
  3. Under General, click Unlink.
  4. To confirm, click Unlink.

Tips:

  • Mark categories carry over differently for each SIS. If you export marks to:
    • Aspen, Infinite Campus, Skyward SMS 2.0 and Skyward Qmlativ SIS:
      • Mark categories carry over if the category titles match. If they don't match, your marks might be assigned to a default category or marked as 'Uncategorised'.
    • PowerSchool SIS:
      • Mark categories must be attached to an assignment in order to be exported successfully. Make sure that the grade category titles match in Classroom and PowerSchool SIS.
  • To download a copy of your marks page with mark categories, learn how to download marks.
