My data isn’t working

If you can’t connect to cellular data—for example, you can't open a website or use an app while you're not on Wi-Fi—try the troubleshooting steps below to fix the issue. After each step, try visiting a website to see if the issue is fixed. You can always use the buttons below to contact a Google Fi expert.

If you're having trouble connecting to Wi-Fi, learn how to troubleshoot your Wi-Fi connection. If you didn't buy your phone from Google Fi or the Google store, check with your phone's manufacturer for details.

Tip: We recommend always connecting to Wi-Fi when it’s available to expand your coverage in places where the cellular network isn’t as strong.

Important: The ability to use data and call at the same time depends on the network you’re on. It won’t always work.

1. Check if you’re in a coverage area

For U.S. locations, check the coverage map. If you’re using your phone outside the U.S., check the 120+ supported countries where you can use Google Fi.

If we’ve got coverage in your location: Try to move to a nearby spot where you’ve got a signal. If you’re inside a building or underground, step outside, as buildings can sometimes block signals. If that doesn’t work, proceed with the next steps.

If we don’t have coverage in your location: Try connecting to Wi-Fi.

Tip: If you and other Google Fi users experience connectivity issues only at a specific address and not at other locations, it’s likely a coverage issue. Use Wi-Fi at that location.

2. Check if the website or app you try to access is down

To check your internet connection, open another website on your phone like android.com. If it works, the issue can be with the specific website or app you’re trying to use.

If another website doesn’t work, continue on to the next steps.

3. Turn Airplane mode on & then off

To reset some settings and possibly fix your connection, turn Airplane mode on and then off. For iPhone settings, refer to the Apple article Use Airplane Mode on your iPhone.

When you’re done, make sure Airplane mode is off. Wait 2–3 minutes before you test again. If Airplane mode is on, the call won't work.

4. Make sure your mobile data is turned on
  1. On your phone, open the Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Cellular.
  3. Turn on Cellular data.

If the mobile data is already turned on, turn it off and then on again.

11. Manually select a network

Only try this step if you’ve attempted to troubleshoot with automatic network selection on, but your data problem still persists:

  1. On your phone, open the Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Cellular and then Cellular Plans Fi and then Network Selections.
  3. Turn off Automatically select a network.

Allow up to 2 minutes for the available network to load. Try each network manually until you establish a connection. After you connect, you no longer need to manually select more networks in the country.

Tip: If a network says “Forbidden,” try to connect anyway. If you connect successfully, the label will be removed.

Important: When you leave the area where you’ve manually selected a network, make sure to switch back to “Automatically select a network.”
