Example configurations for static IPs

This article contains example configurations you can use to help you set up your network with static IP addresses. For more information on setting up your network, consult with your network expert or other IT professional.

If you use your own router, you must configure your WAN interface to use DHCP.

Setup for 1 static IP

Diagram of a business IP configuration. The Fiber Jack allocates public IP address 216.239.33.101 via DHCP to the router. Connected to the router is a wired and wireless host with private dynamic IP addresses 192.168.1.x, and a web server with private static IP address 192.168.1.100.

Setup for multiple static IPs

A diagram showing an example business configuration with multiple static IPs. The Fiber Jack assigns static IP address 216.239.33.101 persistently to the router via DHCP, and 74.125.69.96/29 is routed from the GFiber network to 23.23.23.23. Connected to the router is a wired and wireless host with private dynamic IP addresses 192.168.1.x, and three web servers with public static IP addresses 74.125.69.98, 74.125.69.99, and 74.125.69.100.

If you have a multi-layer router or firewall and router configuration, you must set up a static route to the first device. Follow these guidelines:
  1. Make sure the router connected to the Fiber Jack is set to DHCP and that one of its ports is set with one of the static IPs as the gateway address.
  2. Make sure the remaining routers have static routes pointing to the gateway.
