Body Temperature

What is body temperature?
Body temperature is the temperature inside your body, which is usually taken with a thermometer. It typically varies less than your skin temperature.
Body temperature is referred to as core temperature by some Fitbit features and devices.
How do I manually log my body temperature with the Fitbit app?
  1. Turn on the Body temperature tile by tapping the pencil icon in the upper right of the Today tab. Tap the switch next to Body temperature and then Save.
  2. From the Today tab in the Fitbit app, tap the Body temperature tile. A graph of your body temperatures appears.
  3. Tap + Log temperature on the bottom right.

Troubleshooting

Error message Solution
Couldn’t reach temperature sensor. Opening Fitbit.

When you open the Thermometer app from Fitbit, you might see an error message if the temperature sensor is currently unavailable. You will then be automatically returned to the Fitbit app.

For more details, close the Fitbit app and open the Thermometer app. The main screen of the Thermometer app will display a short summary of the issue (e.g., the sensor may be too warm) along with recommendations for how to address it. For more details, see How do I take my temperature with my Pixel phone?

This result wasn’t
saved to Fitbit

(Age range
0–3 months or 3–36 months)

Temperature results with an age range of 0–3 months or 3–36 months cannot be saved to adult Fitbit accounts.
You should only save your own data to your Fitbit account.

Notes

  • Thermometer app values stored to Fitbit can be viewed on any Android smartphone. Checking on data saved from the Thermometer app isn’t supported yet in the Fitbit app for iOS. You can export your data to check Thermometer data saved to Fitbit. For details refer to How do I export my Fitbit data?
  • In the Fitbit app, timestamps are handled differently for manually logged temperatures versus temperatures saved from the Thermometer app. For manual logs, timestamps are always displayed in the local time at time of logging. They don’t update when timezones change. For temperatures saved from the Thermometer app, timestamps are displayed in current local time based upon the phone’s system settings.
  • If you log a temperature when your phone isn’t connected to the internet, your phone will send the data to Fitbit servers when it reconnects to the internet. Rarely, the values may fail to save to Fitbit servers. If this happens, you can re-export the value from the Thermometer app to Fitbit within 7 days of the time of measurement.
How do I delete body temperatures from the Fitbit app?
  1. From the Today tab in the Fitbit app, tap the Body temperature tile. A graph of your body temperatures appears with a list of your temperature history below.
  2. Tap an individual temperature value.
  3. Tap the deletion icon in the upper right and then Yes when asked to confirm if you want to delete this value. The value will then be removed from the list of temperatures.

Skin Temperature

What is skin temperature?
Skin temperature is the temperature on the skin's surface. It typically varies more than your body temperature, since warming up or cooling down the skin is one way the body regulates itself and keeps body temperature stable. Some Fitbit devices use a sensor to estimate your baseline skin temperature, based on up to 30 days of data. Each morning, you can check how your skin temperature from your last sleep period compares to your personal baseline. You'll notice this information as your skin temperature variation (whether your skin temperature was higher or lower than your baseline).
Which Fitbit devices log skin temperature variation?

Fitbit Sense and Fitbit Sense 2 use a dedicated sensor to estimate your skin temperature variation during sleep sessions. Fitbit Charge 4, Fitbit Charge 5, Fitbit Charge 6, Google Pixel Watch 2, Google Pixel Watch 3, Fitbit Inspire 2, Fitbit Inspire 3, Fitbit Luxe, and Fitbit Versa series surface your sleep-measured skin temperature variation through existing sensors.

How does Fitbit calculate my baseline temperature?

Everyone has a different temperature baseline. When you wear a compatible Fitbit device to sleep, it checks your skin temperature every minute. When the Fitbit app has tracked your sleep skin temperature data for at least 3 days, it estimates your baseline temperature. As you continue to wear your Fitbit device to sleep, the Fitbit app uses up to 30 days of data to adjust your baseline temperature.

How do I check my skin temperature trends?
Sense and Sense 2
  1. Wear your device for at least 3 days, including to sleep.
  2. Upon waking, open the Fitbit app and tap the Skin temp variation tile.
You'll get a history of your sleeping skin temperature variations, along with any core temperature readings you manually recorded.
  3. Tap the tile to check a history of your sleeping skin temperature variations, along with any core temperature readings you manually recorded.
  4. Tap a log to check a minute-by-minute record of your skin temperature variation throughout the most recent sleep session.

You may notice more variation when you check on your minute-by-minute data, as compared with your overall skin temperature variation for a sleep session. Your skin temperature changes throughout your sleep period as you move around and your body regulates itself. Your overall variation is based on your average skin temperature during a sleep session

Charge 4, Charge 5, Charge 6, Inspire 2, Inspire 3, Luxe, Versa series, Google Pixel Watch 2 and Google Pixel Watch 3
  1. Wear your device for at least 3 nights, especially to sleep.
  2. In the morning, open the Fitbit app and tap the Health metrics tile .
  3. Tap the Skin temp variation tile to get more details, including your historical data.
How do I check my skin temperature on the Google Pixel Watch 2?
  1. Wear your device for at least 3 days, when you go to sleep.
  2. When you wake up, open the Fitbit app and select the Skin temp variation tile.
  3. Tap a sleep record to get more details.
Google Pixel Watch 3 introduces Fitbit Morning Brief feature which provides key insights such as your vital health metrics and skin temperature. For more information, refer to Morning brief.
Why does my skin temperature vary?

Skin temperature typically varies over the course of a sleep session. Factors that may cause skin temperature to vary include changes in room temperature, bedding, circadian rhythm, menstrual cycle, or the onset of an illness. Note that significant changes in ambient temperature may negatively impact skin temperature tracking.
