Build your perfect run with the custom workout builder
Google Pixel Watch 3 introduces the ability to build custom outdoor run workouts. Build your ideal run by adding interval workouts and setting your distance, time, and calorie goals. Control your workout intensity with pace and heart rate targets.
Customizing your workouts allows you to stay focused and motivated while working towards your fitness goals with advanced progress tracking. You can review your runs and workout summaries in the Fitbit app or on your watch.
Fitbit app
You can build a run from the Today tab or the Coach tab.
- From the Today tab, tap the icon in the bottom right Build a run.
- Or, from the Coach tab, under Custom runs, tap Build a run.
- To build your custom run:
- Tap Warm up or Cool down to adjust the duration. You can tap the switchto the right of Warm up or Cool down to turn it on or off.
- Tap Add Interval to add an interval.
- Add running interval: Select the goal type, enter a goal, and give it a name. Tap Add to run to save the interval or Add as a repeat if you want to repeat the interval more than once.
- Optionally, set a target if you want to receive alerts to help you stay in a target pace, Heart rate zone, and or Step cadence. After tapping Add Interval tap the icon Set targets Select the target pace, heart rate and cadence Select your range Tap Add to run or Add as repeat
- Add rest interval: Enter the time then tap Save.
- Continue adding intervals until you’ve built your desired workout, and then save your progress.
- If you want to try out your new workout, tap Save and start on watch to start the activity on your watch.
- If you want to save your workout for another time, tap Save to name your workout and store it as a custom run.
Tip: You can drag and drop intervals in any order. Warm ups and cool downs can be turned off.
Google Pixel Watch
- Open the Fitbit Exercise app.
- Tap Run .
- Tap the stack icon .
- Here you’ll find all your saved workouts. To build a workout from scratch, tap the plus icon .
- Select the type of run you want to start with, you’ll be able to add additional intervals and set targets afterwards:
- Customize your workout:
- Choose whether your workout should include a warm up
- Add additional run, rest, or repeat segments by tapping the plus icon .
- Optionally, set a target for run segments if you want to receive alerts to help you stay in a target pace or heart rate zone. To set up target, follow steps below:
- Tap the run segment you want to edit.
- Tap Targets turn on Current Pace or Heart Rate.
- Select your desired range and swipe right to return to the previous screen.
- Choose whether your workout should include a cool down.
- Adjust your alerts.
- Choose what metrics you want to see during the workout.
- Name your workout.
- Tap the play icon to start your workout. To delete a workout, tap Delete.
Why can't I find the Create Workout option?
If you don’t see the option to create a workout, check the following:
- Your Google Pixel Watch might not be paired with the Fitbit app. Ensure that your watch is correctly paired with your Fitbit account. From the Today tab in the Fitbit app, tap the devices icon. Your Google Pixel Watch should appear. If not, refer to Set up Google Pixel Watch for steps to set up your watch.
- The Fitbit app on your phone is not up-to-date. For more information, see How do I use the Fitbit app?
- Your phone is not running the latest version of Android OS. To check, open the Settings app About phone or About device Android Version. To confirm your phone is running a supported version of Android OS, refer to Fitbit-compatible devices.

Alerts
Your watch provides alerts during intervals to update you on your run progress.
Note: All alerts will include sound, haptics, and voice to notify you when you are above, in, or below your target pace range or heart rate zone
Interval alerts
Interval alerts appear between each interval. It provides updates on your previous and upcoming intervals.
Pace range alerts
If you set up a current pace range target, your watch alerts you if you’re below, in, or above range.
HR zone alerts
If you set up a target HR zone, your watch alerts you when you are above, in, or below the zone.
Split alerts
If you turn on split alert, your watch provides your pace every mile.
Time trial goal alerts
If you set up a time trial goal, your watch alerts you if you fall behind the range.
Zone change alerts
Your watch alerts you whenever your HR zone changes.
Name
Edit the name of your workout.
Cool down
The default cool down time is set to 5 minutes. Use the switchto add a cool down or turn it off. Tap the cool down interval to change its duration.
Manage workouts
How do I open or edit a workout?
Fitbit app
- From the Coach tab in the Fitbit app, tap See all in the Custom runs section.
- Tap the workout you want to open. Here, you can make edits to the workout, and then tap Save. If you want to start the workout, tap Start on watch.

Google Pixel Watch 3
- On your watch, open the Exercise app .
- Tap Run .
- Tap the stack icon to display the default and saved runs.
- Select the workout you want to open.
- Here, you can make edits to the workout, which are automatically saved. If you want to start the workout, tap the play icon .
Note: Any saved runs will appear in the Coach tab in the Fitbit app on your phone, and in the Fitbit Exercise app on your watch.
How do I reorder the intervals in a workout?
Fitbit app
- From the Coach tab in the Fitbit app, tap the workout you want to edit in the Custom runs section. Tap See all if it’s not listed.
- Hold down and drag the interval up or down to move it. Alternatively, tap the 3 dots icon to the right of the interval you want to move.
- Tap Move interval up or Move interval down to reorder it.
- Tap Save to save your changes.
Google Pixel Watch
- Open the Fitbit Exercise app on your watch.
- Tap Run.
- Tap the stack icon to see your default and saved runs.
- Select the workout you want to edit.
- Tap the reorder icon under the intervals.
- Tap the upor downicon to the right of each interval to change their order.
- Swipe to the right to return to the previous screen when you finish reordering the intervals.
How do I delete a workout, repeat, or interval?
Fitbit app
Delete a repeat or interval
- Tap the menu iconto the right of a repetition or interval.
- Tap Delete repeat or Delete interval.
Delete a workout
- Select the workout you want to delete.
- Tap the menu iconat the top of the screen.
- Tap Delete workout.

What should I know about daily run and workout recommendations?
Fitbit Premium offers workout recommendations based on your biometrics and profile, including your running goals, preferences, run history, and daily readiness, and target cardio load. The recommendations also consider distance, time, pace, and HR zone targets for a more personalized experience.
Daily run recommendations
Set up daily run recommendations
- From the Coach tab in the Fitbit app, tap Get Started in the Get Personalized Workouts section or scroll down the Coach tab and tap Get Started under the “Featured” carousel.
- Answer the questions in the app to personalize the workouts you receive.
Over time, Fitbit will adapt your recommended runs based on your actual performance and progress.
- Tap Done to return to the Coach tab. Your daily run recommendation appears under Today’s run section, at the top of the Coach tab.
To adjust the settings you chose during setup:
- Open the Fitbit app and tap your profile picture.
- Tap Fitbit settings.
- Under preferences, tap Activity.
- Tap Personalized workouts.
- Adjust your preferneces, or tap the switch next to Daily running workouts to turn the feature on or off.
Note: Changes to daily recommendation settings can take up to 2 days to be reflected in the recommendations themselves.
Start a daily run recommendation
Start your personalized run recommendation, tailored to your target cardio load, recent runs, goals, and preferences.1
Fitbit app
- From the Coach tab, tap your daily run recommendation in the Today’s run section or tap See all to view more options.
- Tap Customize run to edit your run or tap Start on watch to begin the run.
Note: Runs with a icon are powered by AI.
Google Pixel Watch 3
- On your watch, open the Fitbit Exercise app .
- Tap Run .
- Tap the stack icon . Your Daily recommended run is the first one on the list with a icon. Tap it to open it.
- Adjust the options if desired, and then tap the play icon to start the run.
Why don't daily run recommendations show up?
- Make sure your Fitbit Premium subscription is active. For more information, refer to What should I know about Fitbit Premium?
- Your Google Pixel Watch 3 might be unpaired. From the Today tab in the Fitbit app, tap the devices icon. Your Google Pixel Watch 3 should appear. If not, refer to Set up Google Pixel Watch for steps to set up your watch.
- Make sure you completed the onboarding process. Look for the onboarding card in your Fitbit app and follow the steps to get started. Refer to Set up daily run recommendations for instructions.
- You might have turned off the recommendations feature in your settings. Check your settings to see if you've turned off recommendations. Refer to Set up daily run recommendations for instructions.
- Check your consent settings in the Fitbit app. Tap your profile icon Fitbit settings Manage data and privacy. If you revoke your consent to get Fitbit Premium features, recommendations may be turned off.
Daily Workout recommendations
Set up my daily picks
Explore a variety of workouts tailored to your interests with six options daily, including strength training, yoga, and other cardio activities.
- From the Coach tab in the Fitbit app, tap Get Started in the Get Personalized Workouts section or scroll down the Coach tab and tap Get Started under the “Featured” carousel.
- Under Personalized Workouts, tap Get Started.
- Choose your workout type (run, strength, yoga, mobility, or recovery).
- Set your preferences for workout intensity, equipment, and duration.
- Tap Done and go back to the coaching tab to check your daily fitness recommendations.
To adjust the settings you chose during setup:
- Open the Fitbit app and tap your user profile in the top right corner
- Tap Fitbit settings
- Under preferences, tap Activity.
- Under feature settings tap Personalized workouts.
- Toggle on Daily workout picks or adjust your preferences.
Start a daily picks workout
- From the Coach tab in the Fitbit app, tap a workout in the “Your daily picks” section.
- Review the workout intro page and tap Play to begin the workout.
What don’t daily workout recommendations show up?

- Tap Manage data and privacy Manage your dataPersonalized workouts.
- Tap Delete.
