MonsterInsights plugin (WordPress): Set up your Google tag

You can measure behavioral data about your site with Google Ads and Google Analytics. Follow the steps in this article to set up a tag for your Google Ads or Google Analytics account. Learn more about how to Install your Google tag with a website builder or CMS.

Before you begin

You can integrate your Google Analytics account with MonsterInsights (WordPress) for free. If you’d like to set up additional features, an annual MonsterInsights (WordPress) subscription (from $99 USD to $400 USD) will provide the following benefits:

The instructions for setting up the Google tag are different for different tag IDs, so you’ll need to follow the instructions that correspond with your tag.


If you have a tag starting with "AW-"

Tags that start with “AW-” are generally associated with Google Ads accounts.

To configure MonsterInsights with an AW- tag, MonsterInsights must first be configured with Google Analytics.

  1. To install MonsterInsights, log in to your WordPress dashboard, then click Plugins.An animation that depicts how to add new plugins within a Google Analytics account.

  6. When the setup wizard is complete, under 'Insights', click Settings, then click Publisher.A simplified UI animation that depicts how to access the Publisher tool within a Google Ads account.
  7. Navigate to the 'Ads Tracking' section and paste your Google tag ID (for example, AW-123456789).
  8. Click Save Changes at the top of the page.

If you have a tag starting with "ignored"

Tags that start with “ignored” are generally associated with Google Analytics accounts.

  1. If MonsterInsights is not currently installed, follow the instructions below.
