To capture valuable insights while protecting user privacy, you need to collect consent from your website users. We recommend you use a Consent management platform (CMP) or work with your content management system (CMS) to collect consent and send it to Google.

Step 1: Set up a consent banner
- Sign up for a Secure Privacy account.
- Configure your banner using the 'Getting started' wizard.
- Make sure that your banner complies with the requirements in the Google EU User Consent Policy (EUUCP).
Step 2: Set up consent mode
Set up using Google Tag Manager
- Open Google Tag Manager and navigate to your container.
- In 'Tags', click New and name the tag.
- Click Tag Configuration, then click Discover more tag types in the Community Template Gallery.
- From the gallery, search for 'Secure Privacy', then install 'Secure Privacy banner' by secureprivacy.
- In the configuration for the Secure Privacy banner, set the ID field to the domain ID (part after the last forward slash and before '.js') from your Secure Privacy script found on the Installation page of the Secure Privacy portal.
- Configure any country-specific settings that you’d like to use under 'Default settings'. Create one row for each setting that you’d like to override (default is denied), and use a comma-separated ISO 3166-2 country codes in the Region box to indicate which regions/countries that row’s settings should apply to.
- Click Add, then click Triggering.
- Select 'Consent Initialisation – All Pages', then click Save.
- Click Preview in the top right-hand corner to test your container. View instructions for testing below.
- Publish your container.
Set up using other platforms or directly editing website code
To enable this:
- Sign in to your Secure Privacy account.
- Click on the domain to be modified.
- Under the 'Framework' drop-down, select the 'GCM + IAB TCF 2.2' option
Enable using Secure Privacy Legacy:
- Sign in to your Secure Privacy account.
- Navigate to 'Installation', then Google consent mode tab.
- Toggle the button on (to the right) labelled 'Enable Google consent mode'.
To add default consent setting:
- Click Add setting.
- Select Granted/Denied from the drop-down for each category based on your requirements.
- Set the Region by entering the region’s ISO-standardised (ISO 3166-2) codes for the specific regions that you intend to Geo-target with your banner. If you prefer not to Geo-target your banner to specific regions around the globe, enter all in the Regions field. Refer to the ISO 3166-2 standard for the appropriate region codes.
- Click Add.
