About advanced reporting and controls for creative video automation in Performance Max

You can now find advanced reporting and controls for creative video enhancements in Performance Max. You can now remove individual automatically enhanced assets in reporting and proactively control text, and video assets via campaign level controls.

How it works

Reporting helps you understand the types of creative automation leveraged by Performance Max campaigns and how they help drive performance for your campaigns. This includes showcasing the impact of having a shorter video that better captures user attention in the first 5 seconds and existing creative automation such as automated aspect ratio optimization. Controls let you guide the AI to influence the creative output or turn off specific types of creative automation altogether.

Video enhancements use Google AI to automatically create additional versions of your video to improve campaign performance, for example by generating a vertical video from your horizontal video to better fit on vertical screens, or a shorter video that better captures user attention in the first 5 seconds.

Get vertical and/or square versions from your original horizontal video: Google AI intelligently reformats videos for full screen portrait playback on mobile devices. The model breaks the video into explicit “scenes” and detects important elements such as human faces, key objects, logos, text, and motion. The model has parameters to determine how much to highlight one element or another. This solution transforms horizontal videos into square or vertical videos, enabling advertiser assets to feel native across new surfaces like Shorts.

Get shorter versions from your original video: Google AI generates shorter versions of existing video assets (>15 seconds). The model analyzes the story, audio, and other key elements of the original video to ensure the main message and appearance are preserved and prioritizes the most engaging first 5 seconds.

  • Asset group reporting
  • Campaign level asset reporting
  • Performance Max channel-level reporting

A/B Experimentation

A/B Experimentation will enable you to understand the impact of creative enhancements for your campaigns. This will allow you to perform a one-click automated experiment to A/B test a campaign with or without a specific enhancement enabled, using the existing budget.

Controls

You will now have campaign level, proactive control for automated video assets on Performance Max. These controls enable you to directly influence if and how Creative applications optimize assets on your behalf, such as, turn applications off or remove individual undesired system generated assets.

Control

Advertisers whose business needs don’t align with a specific type of creative automation can turn off this specific type of automation altogether. This control is discoverable in campaign settings and/or creative settings. There is one bundled control for all video enhancements.

Removals

Advertisers whose business needs align with a given type of creative automation require the ability to remove individual system generated assets that don’t meet brand expectations while retaining the overall benefits of creative automation.

Advertisers can select “remove” from the dropdown when clicking on the asset status to remove individual assets without opting out of the overall application. The option to remove automatically created assets is accessible in asset group reporting.
