If Sleep Sensing isn’t working the way you expected, find your issue here and follow the troubleshooting steps.
Sleep calibration failed
Sleep calibration uses your breathing motion to locate how far away you are from your Nest Hub while you’re sleeping. Calibration may fail because of your Nest Hub’s position or other movement in the room.
- Remove any objects between you and the display screen.
- Check that your Nest Hub is within 1 foot (30 cm) of the height of your mattress, and that it’s within arm’s reach and facing your torso when you’re lying in bed.
- Check for moving objects like fans, rocking chairs, and swaying curtains. Make sure nothing else in the room is moving while Sleep Sensing is calibrating. While you’re asleep, moving objects should be farther away from Nest Hub than you are, even if they’re not blocking the screen.
- Recalibrate Sleep Sensing while no one else is in the room, including pets.
- To recalibrate, on your Nest Hub display screen, swipe up from the bottom.
- Tap Settings Sleep Sensing Calibrate device follow the steps.
There’s a sleep summary on Google Fit, but not on Nest Hub
You may need to update your settings in the Google Home app.
- Turn on Personal results:
- Open the Google Home app .
- Tap Favorites or Devices .
- Tap and hold your device's tile.
- Tap Settings Recognition & Sharing Personal results.
- Turn on Personal results then tap Show proactively.
- Update Wellness settings:
- Open the Home app .
- Tap Settings Google Assistant Manage all Assistant settings Wellness.
- Under "Proactive health & fitness results", turn on your Nest Hub.
- Under "What would you like to manage?", tap Sleep under Google Fit , tap Connect.
There’s a sleep summary on Nest Hub, but not on Google Fit
Check that the account being used for Google Fit is the same as the account being used for Nest Hub and that your settings are correct in the Google Home app.
Check Nest Hub:
- Open the Google Home app .
- At the top right, tap your account.

Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Google device. If correct, tap to close the account window. To switch accounts, tap the dropdown icon , then tap another account or Add another account
- Tap Favorites or Devices ..
- Touch and hold your Nest Hub's tile Settings .
- Tap Sleep Sensing, then check that it’s turned on.
- If it’s not turned on, tap Set up Sleep Sensing and follow the steps.
- Tap Assistant access to Fit and check that the settings you want are turned on.
Check Google Fit:
- Open the Google Fit app .
- At the top right, tap your account.

There’s no sleep summary on Nest Hub or Google Fit
- Check settings in the Google Home app:
- Open the Google Home app .
- Tap Favorites or Devices ..
- Tap and hold your device's tile.
- Tap Settings Sleep Sensing.
- Check that Sleep Sensing is turned on.
- Check settings on your Nest Hub (2nd gen):
- On the display screen, swipe up from the bottom, then tap Settings .
- Check that Sleep Sensing is turned on.
- Check that Motion Sense is turned on.
- Recalibrate Sleep Sensing:
- On your Nest Hub display screen, swipe up from the bottom.
- Tap Settings Sleep Sensing Calibrate device.
Google Assistant answers, “Sorry, I can't do that with Fitbit on this device.”
If you set up Nest Hub Sleep Sensing after you set up a Fitbit, Fitbit remains the default sleep service in Assistant Settings. When Fitbit is the default sleep service, you’ll only be able to find your sleep summary data in the Google Fit app.
To let Nest Hub show your sleep data, change your default sleep service:
- Open the Google Home app .
- Tap Settings Google Assistant Manage all Assistant settings Wellness Sleep.
- Select Google Fit.
It didn’t record my snores and coughs
- Check Home app settings:
- Open the Home app .
- Tap Favorites or Devices ..
- Tap and hold your device's tile.
- At the top right, tap Settings .
- Tap Sleep Sensing, turn on sound events tracking.
- Check that the Nest Hub microphone is on. The switch is on the back. It should be switched to the right so that no orange shows.
My sleep data is inaccurate
Your Nest Hub placement and nearby people, pets, or noises can cause inaccurate readings.
- Remove any objects between you and the display screen.
- Check that your Nest Hub is within 1 foot (30 cm) of the height of your mattress, and that it’s within arm’s reach and facing your torso when you’re lying in bed.
- To help Nest Hub distinguish between you and co-sleepers, recalibrate Sleep Sensing when no one else is in the room, including pets:
- On your Nest Hub display screen, swipe up from the bottom.
- Tap Settings Sleep Sensing Calibrate device follow the steps.
