Use Smart Schedule on your Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen)

Turning on Smart Schedule allows your thermostat to learn from adjustments you make throughout the day to optimize your schedule. When the Smart Schedule is set to Automatic, optimizations are automatically applied to your schedule. If you prefer to approve any changes to your schedule, you can set Smart Schedule to Suggestions.

How does Smart Schedule work?

Use Smart Schedule and your Temperature Sensor to optimize comfort and savings

When Smart Schedule is turned on, your thermostat learns from the temperature adjustments you make to optimize the temperatures in your schedule. It can also adjust the timing of scheduled Sleep Temperatures and add energy-saving Eco Temperatures to your schedule based on signals from your phone’s location or the motion sensor in the thermostat.

You’ll know your thermostat is learning when you adjust your temperature on the thermostat or in the app and see a message that the thermostat is learning from your changes. When your thermostat learns enough to adjust your schedule, you might see a message in the Home app or on the thermostat display that the thermostat:

  • Updated a temperature preset
  • Adjusted the timing of a scheduled event
  • Added an event to the schedule

Note: If you set Smart Schedule to Suggestions, you’ll see a notification asking if you want to make a suggested change to your schedule. For details on suggestions, refer to Suggestion mode notifications.
