You can update your Nest Wifi or Google Wifi password in the Google Home app. Network passwords are alphanumeric. This means they’re a combination of letters and numbers. But there are some restrictions:
- Passwords must be between 8 and 63 characters.
- No spaces. Make sure there isn’t an accidental space at the beginning or end of your network name or password.
If you change your network Wi-Fi password, all your devices will be disconnected from Wi-Fi until you update those devices with the new password. If you forget to update your password on a device, the Google Home app will provide a network insight after 7 days to let you know a device can’t connect.
Change your Wi-Fi password
- Open the Google Home app .
- Tap Favorites Wifi Network settings your existing password.
- Enter a new password.
- Tap Save.
Reuse an older network name and password
If you reuse a network name and password from an old router, you won’t have to reconnect devices that were previously on the network.
Note: If your old router is still broadcasting a Wi-Fi network, you might experience odd behavior because some devices will be connected to your Wifi router or point and others connected to your older router. Enable bridge mode on your old router or if it’s not needed, turn off your older router to fix this issue.
