Google Nest Learning Thermostats are compatible with most whole-home humidifiers and dehumidifiers that work independently from your air conditioner. However, professional installation is strongly recommended.

Make an appointment with our installation partner OnTech to have a trained pro come to your home to install and set up your Nest products.

How Nest thermostats work with your air conditioner's dehumidification mode

All air conditioners dehumidify your home by pushing air over your air conditioner's refrigerated coils, cooling and drying the air. When in dehumidification mode, the AC's fan runs at a slower speed, removing moisture from the air without cooling the house as much as it would in normal cooling mode.

Nest thermostats work with advanced air conditioning systems that have their own dehumidification mode.

The thermostat’s Cool to Dry feature gives you more direct control of your air conditioner’s dehumidification mode.

How to tell if your air conditioner has a dehumidification mode

The easiest way to tell is to check the model on the manufacturer's website. A local pro installer can also determine if your air conditioner has a dehumidification mode.

Important: If your thermostat has a DEHUM or dehumidifier wire, it doesn't mean that your air conditioner has a dehumidification mode. The wire could connect to a standalone dehumidifier that is separate from your air conditioner.

Control your humidity

Your Nest thermostat can give you more direct control over your air conditioner's dehumidification mode. Choose the relative humidity level you want in your home.

Compatibility with Nest thermostats

Nest thermostats are usually compatible with whole home humidifier and dehumidifier systems that connect to your thermostat with one or two low-voltage wires.

If you haven’t purchased a Nest thermostat, use the Compatibility Checker to tell if your system can work with a Nest thermostat.

The app also checks your system’s compatibility during setup. Enter your thermostat wiring into the app and it will tell you if your system is compatible and how to connect the wires to your Nest thermostat.

Compatible systems have wires have one of the following labels:

  • Humidification labels
    • H, HUM, HUM1, H2, HUM2
  • Dehumidification labels
    • D, DH, DHUM, DEHUM, D2, DH2, DHUM2, DEHUM2
Important: In some cases, you’ll need professional installation for your Nest  thermostat. Choosing the wrong options for a humidifier or dehumidifier can result in system damage. It’s important for a trained professional to assess the requirements for your system.
