Change your payments profile legal name

Your legal name is the name you used when you first made a purchase or verified your identity at Google. It may also be the name you used to sign up for certain business products or services.

Google uses your legal name to comply with regulations, enforce our transparency policies, and prevent fraud.

Edit your payments profile legal name

Important: Your legal name should reflect your identity, like the name on your government-issued ID.

Changes apply to services that use your legal name, as well as invoices and tax documents Google sends you.

Allow for up to 5 business days for the name update to occur. Once the information has been updated you’ll receive a confirmation email.

Change your legal name on Google payments center
  1. Sign in to your Google payments center settings.
  2. If you have more than one profile:
    1. At the top right next to your name, click Down arrow Down arrow.
    2. Choose the profile that you want to edit.
  3. Next to "Name", click Edit or Edit.
    • You may need to fill out a form to request a payments profile name update. If so, follow the on-screen instructions to enter your info, upload documents, and re-verify your name.
  4. Enter your updated name.
  5. Click Save.
Change your legal name in your Google Account
  1. Go to myaccount.google.com/personal-info. You may be asked to sign into your Google Account.
  2. Under “Basic Info”, select Name.
  3. Tap or click Legal Name.
    • If you have more than one payment profile:
      1. Tap Switch.
      2. Select your payment profile.
      3. Tap Continue.
  4. Tap or click Change Legal Name.
  5. Next to "Name", click Edit or Edit.
    • You may need to fill out a form to request a payments profile name update. If so, follow the on-screen instructions to enter your info, upload documents, and re-verify your name.
  6. Enter your new name.
  7. Tap or click Save.

Cancel a payments profile legal name update

If you cancel and retry a name update, it’ll go through the review process again. Allow for up to 5 business days for the change to occur. Once the information has been updated you’ll receive a confirmation email.

Cancel your legal name update on Google payments center
  1. Sign in to Google payments center settings.
  2. If you have more than one profile:
    1. At the top right next to your name, click Down arrow Down arrow.
    2. Select the profile that you want to edit.
  3. Next to "Name", click Edit or Edit.
  4. Click Change name and then Cancel name change.
  5. To confirm, click Cancel name change.
Cancel your legal name update in your Google Account
  1. Go to myaccount.google.com/personal-info. You may be asked to sign in to your Google Account.
  2. At the top left, select Personal info.
  3. Under “Basic Info”, select Name
  4. Tap or click Legal Name
    • If you have more than one payment profile:
      1. Tap Switch.
      2. Select your payment profile.
      3. Tap Continue.
  5. Check your status:
    • If your name update is “in review”, tap or click Cancel name change.
    • If your name update has “action required”, tap or click Cancel or retry name change.
