Adaptive Sound subtly and automatically optimises volume based on the noise level of your environment. If you're moving from your quiet home or office to somewhere noisy like a city street, cafe or underground station, you’ll notice a subtle difference in your volume to adjust to the new level of outside noise. Adaptive Sound adjusts for sustained noise, rather than one-off background noise, to ensure a non-disruptive listening experience. Adaptive Sound on Google Pixel Buds is only available on Android and requires an Android 6.0+ device.
Important: If you are using Pixel Buds Pro, you can use Active Noise Control.
How to use Adaptive Sound | Google Pixel Buds
Turn on Adaptive Sound
- On a Pixel phone with Android 10+: Go to Settings Connected devices Pixel Bud's settings .
Other Androids: Open your Google Pixel Buds app . - Tap Sound Adaptive Sound.
- Toggle Adaptive Sound.
Note: Adaptive Sound will be temporarily disabled when you manually adjust your Pixel Buds’ or your device’s volume. This prevents the system from changing your desired volume. Adaptive Sound will be automatically re-enabled when you enter an environment with a significantly different noise profile. To prevent possible hearing damage, avoid listening at high volume for prolonged periods of time.
