Copy data from an iPhone or Android device to a Pixel Tablet

In just a few steps, you can copy your data from your previous device, like an iPhone, iPad or Android phone, to your Pixel Tablet.

Copy from an Android device to a Pixel Tablet

Copy data from your Android device to your new Pixel Tablet in a few steps. You can copy data like photos and music from your previous device to your new Pixel Tablet. The Google apps that you use every day, like Gmail and Chrome, are ready to go.

Step 1. Get ready to set up your new Pixel Tablet

Make sure that you have the following:

  • Fully charged Android device on the latest software and its charging cable
  • New, charged Pixel Tablet
  • Good Wi-Fi connection

Important: You need a Google Account to download apps, and some content won't copy to your Pixel Tablet without one.

Step 2. Start Pixel Tablet setup

You're ready to set up your new tablet:

  1. Turn on your Pixel Tablet and then tap Get started.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions. When prompted, connect to a Wi-Fi network.

Important: You need to be connected to a network for data to copy from your old device.

Step 3. Connect your devices
  1. During Pixel Tablet setup, when you're prompted to copy your apps and data, tap Next.
  2. Turn on, then unlock your old device.
  3. Use a USB cable to connect the two devices.
    • If you don't have a cable, tap No cable? and then follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. On your old device, confirm the connection.
  5. On your Pixel Tablet, sign in to your Google Account.

When you copy data with a cable, your videos, contacts, calendars and music get copied to the new device. The following won't copy:

  • Accounts other than Google Accounts and their data
  • Downloads, like PDF files
  • Photos, videos and music stored in hidden folders
  • Apps not from the Google Play Store
  • Data from apps that don't use Android backup
  • Contacts and calendars synced to non-Google services
Step 4. Copy your data

The data copying process can take anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour. While you wait, you can manage other settings, like Fingerprint Unlock or Google Assistant. To set them up later, tap Skip.

  1. Untick the boxes next to the data categories you don't want to copy and then tap Copy and then Continue.
  2. After your data is copied to your Pixel Tablet, tap Done for now.

Tip: If one of your apps doesn't copy, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
