If you're near your Google Nest or Home device and Pixel Tablet or phone, only one of the devices should respond to "Hey Google." Multiple devices might activate, but only one should respond.
Google chooses the best device to respond to based on various factors like proximity of the device, type of request, and capabilities of the device, among others.
Step 1: Update your Google app version
- Open your phone or tablet's Google app .
- Tap your profile Settings About.
- Check the version number.
- If your version is below 6.5, go to the Google app page tap Update.
Step 2: Add the same account to all devices
If you have multiple Google Accounts, add the account you used to set up Google Home on your device.
Important: If the device that responds isn't yours, these steps won't fix the issue.
Step 1: Check which account you use on Google Home
- Open the Google Home app .
- Tap Devices tap your Google Nest or Home device.
- Tap Settings Recognition & sharing Linked account(s).
- Check the Google Account(s) linked to your device.
Step 2: Add the account to your device
- On your Pixel device's Home screen, tap your profile tap Add.
- Follow the on-screen instructions. After you add the account, you don't need to stay signed in.
